Slough won tonight against East Thurrock 2-0

Yeah , and some of us missed Sammy's goal just after half time as we were in the bar with our admission ticket as if you showed it you got a free beer ! hey ho , S**t happens , Hurrah for East Thurrock UTD !!

Played the ball around nicely (again), but in the first half didn't look likely to score (again) - though Tony Boot did put one straightforward chance wide, and Daly got behind the defence for a header from a free-kick that should have at least been on target.

 

Three substitutions at half-time, Winston, Hale and Barras on - Boot, Deaner and Reed off. Not sure how wise this was (what if someone was injured early on ?) but it certainly brought instant results as Ryan Spencer got behind the defence and pulled back a pinpoint cross for Sammy Winston to send in a stooping header which a defender could only help over the line. Assume the goal will be given to Sammy.

 

A second midway through the half - another fine cross from Spencer, header back by Winston for Hale to volley in impressively (chest-high and not easy) from 10 yards. Game over !

 

Gilkes had another impressive game in midfield - something is motivating him more than last season. Hakki had a quiet game by his standards. Daley was dominant in the air, and Palmer had another good game though was not so prominent coming forward as he had been on Saturday. Zephirin did enough on the day without making me feel confident about him.

 

Not sure how strong a test East Thurrock made, but a win is a win - roll on Marlow !

 

Oh - and congratulations to East Thurrock for providing free drinks at half-time. I expect the Thorne's will jump on the bandwagon for our next home game.........
