tonights game/semi final

Well just got back from the game & I`ve got to say that was one of the worst performances of recent times. Sure we have the justifable excuses

of being short of players, of having to play those who were obviously not fit but we played most of the game against 10 men from a team a league down for Christsakes! We were dreadful - could not string more than a couple of passes together. It was`nt as if they were anything special. they had height, pace, passion & strength but little football. Why did we wait so long before bringing Moussa on ? sure he`s hit & miss but could`nt have done much worse than what we did. Its fairly obvious we need to strengthen certain areas of the team & I hope Liam realises this . I fear for the rest of this season now - indifferent results, falling attendances - how the hell are we going to market the club? Worst thing that can happen now is to lose to canvey on Saturday.

Alan, we might just as well go out and sign four donkeys from the knackers yard because when pressed into action they can run faster than the lame donkeys we have at the back..Its not the first time this season we have been cruelly exposed by a team with pace. Its not Jays fault but he cant play center half because he's far too slow hence his sending off (not the first time this season from this position)...This was the biggest game in our recent history, the chance to be in the semi final of the FA Trophy vs a lower league team and quite simply we f*cked it. By the way, we were meant to be a conference outfit and their forward line bar Manny had much more ability than ours..Im so angry. End of season we need to make changes. Wilkerson, Pinnock, Sidibe, Essandoh, Sigere, Bunce, Porter all need to go as they are not good enough full stop.

Wilko played well tonight I thought. unfair criticism. If it was not for him the defence would have leaked a lot more. Gleds lacks pace and distribution. He got caught out for their third. After being a rock at the back on Saturday, he was not all that tonight.

As Matt's said, my overwhelming emotion at the end of that game is anger. Yes, the players ran their socks off and worked and put in the effort, but from that came little in the way of concentration, fluid football, attacking flair. Yes, it's a cup tie and yes this kind of things happens in cup ties, but WE BLEW IT.

 

2-1 with three minutes left and having been 1-0 up against 10 men, to end it with nine and lose, having saved a penalty intot he bargain! Jesus, we were shocking - we should have had enough about us to see off a team a division below with 10 men. Full credit to Stortford, they bloody well hung on and they deserved the win, but they should never have been allowed to stay in the game if we hadn't blown it.

What Matt? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> I thought Wilkerson was brilliant. He couldn't have done much about either goal and pulled off some great saves, especially in the first-half aswell as for the penalty. Bunce is a great player too, just a bit slow. I thought Porter did alright, he made a few important blocks/tackles.

What was shown up last night was our wafer thin squad - we've had to change the back 4 completely again, not just players but positions as well.

 

Gleds has been doing brilliantly at Centre Half, yet reverted to right back tonight - why? Yes, I know it would have meant finding someone else for right back, but perhaps we should have started as we finished on Saturday, with Lovell there. was Porter fit? After all, it has only been 3 weeks since his injury.

 

Sidibe & Essendoh are certainly candidates for going - wilko is a confidence keeper as Stevenage fans said when he joined us - if things go well, he is great, but if his confidence is low, he suffers badly.

had a bad feeling all night - give it to Bishop Stortford they identified our weakness and exploited it all night i.e. long ball in behind the defence. They also never gave up even when we scored what should have been the winner in the 90th minute.

Well, this is not the first time he has behaved like this. I have had the same experience, again this was at a trophy match, against eastbourne. He seems to forget who pays his wages. As he told me to f**ck off. Oh yes, he is a trully professional player.

I don't think that it's just Jay thats too slow, it's all of our central defence. Although if Macca had not been injured then we would have been okay. They kept getting in behind our defence did it as well on Saturday.

Wilko did play well but like people have said he is a confidence player. I think Steve Mckimm gives the ball away too much, Roy runs around like a headless chicken half the time and the amount of times the mousse got unchanged and ready to come on only to sit back down again well I think his days are numbered.

Well if some fans can 'give it' to players of their own team, they should expect it back. I heard a 'halfwayliner' shout out to Andy for no reason.

 

Frankly i would have been dissapointed if he didnt respond.

As others have said, criticism of Wilko is harsh after last night's strong performance. Even if he is a 'confidence 'keeper' as some have claimed, he still makes a reasonable deputy to Pullen in my view. Of course, as we all know, his kicking could be a lot better, but it seems unlikely that we're going to be able to secure a back-up 'keeper who is basically Pullen Mark II.

As for Graham, I think describing him as 'not good enough' is unfair. Clearly, his apparent injury proneness is a major concern, but ability-wise I don't have too many concerns with him. Last night, it seemed to be cramp more than anything that forced him off, although rushing him back from injury obviously didn't help.

Agreed Porter's got the ability, I like him as a player, but his injuries I think make him a liability. If he's only going to make 15 games or so a season, I think we'd better off looking elsewhere.

I seem to recall Liam saying that he needed time to get 100%fit give the bloke some time!!

You probably deserved it.
You don't pay his wages - the club do.
You pay to watch a game, not abuse the players.
