Arrogant Arsenal (Part 359)

Recommended Posts

Just overheard the following conversation between an Arsenal-supporting director and an Arsenal-(armchair-)supporting employee at work...

Goon 1 (Director): "So we got Blackburn in the semi, then."

Goon 2 (Armchair-fan employee): "Oh brilliant - I hadn't heard the draw. That's great news - about time we had an Arsenal/United final"

Goon 1: "Yeah, I'm going to the Final. Already booked by hotel room in Cardiff."

Goon 2: "Cool - just hope we get a decent referee. They should bring Collina over for it."

Goon 1: "Too right. A show-piece event like the FA Cup Final. And it's the Final the rest of the country wanted really, isn't it?"

Goon 2: "Yeah, there hasn't been too many good FA Cup Finals in recent years. United/Arsenal will be quality - especially as it's the last chance of silverware this season for either club. PLEASE let the FA get Collina in to do it, though. I think we should start a campaign"

Sun King: "Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."

It won't be a good game in fact it will be little more than a boxing match!!! Doubt I'll watch the game if it's Arsenal v Man United.

Absolutely - if it's United vs Arsenal, I'll be wearing my Spurs shirt down the pub with a United scarf on!!

I'd obviously like either the Geordies or Blackburn to win the Cup, but then again, it does tend to wind up the Goons when United win something instead of them!!

Disagree that Arsenal/Southampton was one-sided, by the way. It was only 1-0 (I think) and Southampton had their chances.

the problem with all you "yiddos"(sorry am i allowed to call you that,(oh you did invent the tag))is that you are so worried what us GOONERS are doing that your own team for the last forty four years has somewhat just been trapped in time, you lot should wake up man,i hate tottenham and don't give two hoots who knows it but a good season for you would be finishing 19th and going down as long as arsenal finished 20th,my mum(who is arsenal through and through)used to watch arsenal at home one saturday and spurs(so she could see danny blantchflower)the week after, now she couldn't,i guess things have changed, the hatred has always been there but there is a bitterness now and it has ruined it,sorry for interfering on your forum but i am bored as no-one is on my beloved hornchurch forum, what i have said is not fact, just my opinion!

I wouldn't disagree, really. My father did the same thing - a big Spurs fan, yet up until the late 90s he had a season ticket at both Spurs and Arsenal.

I do disagree that we've been trapped in time over the last forty years, though.

The last 10 or fifteen then yes, I have to concede you may be right. But certainly in the 60s, 70s and 80s, we were just as successful as Arsenal, and in terms of trophies won, we probably come out just on top, though I'm reluctant to turn this into a 'who was better than whom'-type thread.

My original post on here was about the two moron colleagues I'm stuck with for 8 hours a day, though. Nice enough blokes, but when it comes to Arsenal they're just blinkered. Funny thing is, on the rare occasion that you lose a game, you can't find the buggers!

I don't know you eastside, but I'd hope you're a little humbler in both victory and defeat than these two muppets!

In general, the Arsenal fans I know are a pretty decent bunch of guys, if a little dull. Most of them are armchair fans too, but that's their prerogative. It's just this attitude they've developed over the last few years I find hard to stomach. The assumption that they've won a game before it's even started.

My boss has made himself look a bit stupid on occasions this season, particular when he predicted a 6-1 home victory against Southampton! A home thrashing of West Brom was another.

As a Spurs fan, you learn to keep your predictions to yourself, as they generally come back to haunt you!
