The official attendance.....

Recommended Posts

The official attendance as supplied by Sawbridgeworth Town on Saturday was 160 and, at Brentwood, 91. There is no doubt about the attendance at Eton Manor but, and this seems to be the bone of contention - Eton Manor count ONLY those who pay at the gate and that was 5. They were very difficult to find as it is nigh on impossible to see from ground level who is sitting in the grandstand at Tilbury FC. If you counted everyone as some do, then there were also about 6 Burnham Ramblers Officials plus two League Officers all on Official passes. Some clubs also count season tickets holders . Probably the saddest thing about "that" attendance was the total lack of children in the ground bearing in mind the visitors were challenging for the League title. All I can say is that the "few" witnessed a very good game.

LC its because the kids come to watch Romford, as we dont charge for all children under the age of 16, got loads coming this saturday aswell

Is it only Romford Kids who get in free? coz when Enfield Town played you, your Gateman wanted to charge a child who is not yet 2 years old & one who is only just 1 year old £3.00 to get in !!! Not exactly encouraging is it?

...at Eton Manor v Burnham Ramblers yesterday was....FIVE. Nice to see the good burghers of Burnham on Crouch getting into the swing of this football lark, like going to watch matches?

This has been troubling me since I read Centre Spot. Not one paying away supporter at Saturday's game. For a team challenging for the title, [and with points on the board perhaps the marginal favourites too] and clearly paying disproportionate wages & expenses it doesn't stack up.

The best home gate to date was, not surprisingly, against Romford. That was 85, well above the season's average. Perhaps the lure of higher level football will bring more people in through the turnstiles, but perhaps not. I wonder what's going on; somebody appears to have more money than sense.

Let's hope they are a fan and don't turn their back on the club if it doesn't work out.

The problem with us is that we have no "home". We have plenty of people who would come to watch but Tilbury is a bit of a trek. There were about 20-25 altogether but most were not charged. It's funny how some clubs get supporters and others get none. Burnham on Crouch is not exactly big and is in the middle of no where which would probably explain their lack of support. Even if they get promoted I doubt their support will increase. League Chairman good to see you on Saturday. I'm glad you enjoyed the game. It's a pity we haven't played for a month and can't train because of a lack of facilities because I think the game would have been tighter. I feel for our lads because I know how frustrating it is to play knowing what you want to do but can't because you are not fit. But I was proud of our team because despite this we played well and battled to the end. As I keep saying with the ball we are excellent but off the ball our fitness lets us down.

Something that Burnham have going in their favour is their own bar that potentially can generate income into the football club. Unfortunately this something that neither ETFC or Romford have working for us.

It is sad when a successful club are unable to attract support through the gate, but far from unusual. During our recent Ryman adventure e few years ago, we encountered clubs like Yeading, Croydon and other that were unable to attract 50 of their own supporters through the door for home matches and could have arranged away travel on a skateboard. At the same time they could attract good players and pay competitive wages on the back of a successful bar and commercial set up.

This is where the potential for clubs like ETFC and Romford really lies. We are capable of attracting fee paying punters and we were able to add our own grounds, social facilities etc could make a mark at a higher level.

...and Thame of course. Thurrock and Redbridge/Ford have both been a case in issue. Both teams have people at the top willing to pump money into them (well past tense in Redbridge's case), but for what. Yes Thurrock is a chimney pot-free zone (to paraphrase Yoda) and is totally soul-less (who remembers the live game against Oldham this season and Luton last...who picks them for God's sake?).

Mind you I don't think Tommy South's bank balance has too many holes in it.

I think Chappo has give up the ghost at Redbridge. He cannot continually pump money in there for no support. Despite the dreadful name change little has happened in the way of local interest...Now who remembers the idea of Rom-Ford United!

One thing in Burnham's favour must be that it is a relatively remote proper small town. I would have thought that more people would go along to watch their local team - there is no Spurs, West ham or arsenhole just down the road to pull support away. Much of the fun of non-league footy is that you can identify with your home town club, wander out at 10 to 3 for a game (or much earlier and have a few beers with no ned to drive), take the youngsters and so on.

I would have thought Burnham would score on these issues, especially with such a superb stadium and bar, so I'm a bit surprised that they don't get at least 100.
