Good evening gentlemen. Last night I decided to venture into the town centre for an evening of entertainment with a lady friend and after visiting numerous public houses I was horrified to discover that liquor, profanities, casual racism, sexism and even violence were all in evidence. I witnessed a dual in the Somerset Arms, which was only interrupted by the intervention of a door steward, a young couple who were swapping bodily fluids in an alleyway as female companion and I walked back to my motor car, the ‘f’ and ‘c’ words mentioned on nearly sixty occasions by both male and female citizens. Even more suppressing is that one of my favourite pubs the Nelson now appears to be some kind of fast food American style restaurant. What’s been going on? I didn’t recognise Gravesend as the town I grew up in. With a general election fast approaching, I would lend my vote to any political party who campaigns for the re-introduction of National Service. What else has happened since I have been away?

This is due to the Chav culture that currently plagues our nation. I saw a programme that lands the blame at the door of Thatcher.

After browsing through the Chavscum website I would be interested to know why Mrs Thatcher was to blame for the emergence of these people.

Surely these lower-class ruffians have always been there but law and order kept them in line better?

What interested me most about my observation where that during the entire evening I didn’t spot a Police Officer patrolling the town, and also that when I raised the point of bad language in the pub with a member of the bar staff the person just shrugged their shoulders and looked at me blankly – even after pointing out the guilty party.

The reason Thatcher was blamed (I think) was because she closed the docks. She never gave in to the Strikers and then a lot of trades closed. I'm not being to clear on all this (all though I am trying) but I think all those people being out of work made them lazy and lithargic, one thing led to another and now here we are.

That Burchill programme was abysmal. Her reasoning that we're jealous of chavs was because they're 'colourful' (yeah, sky blue hoodies) and that Kate Moss, being a chav (which she isn't) is better looking than posh birds who all look like Fergie. Brilliant journalism.

It's not a class thing, it's a behaviour thing. And any section of society whose idea of fun is bottling someone should rightly find themselves mocked, ridiculed and despised.

(Burchill forgot to mention her recent £1.5m house sale in leafy Hove when banging on about how chav she was...)

Exactly, I have a few friends who you could consider Chavs by the way they dress but would never react or behave in a way that true Chavs behave. That woman who did that programme called herself a Chav, I wouldn't she had reasons and a decent argument and knew how to put her oppinions across. Chavs think what they do because someone else tells them to think like that.
