Stortford Today

Recommended Posts

Great turnout from the fans today, lets all get down there on Tuesday and get behind the team like today. Well done people. Great games at the back from Gleds and Jay, looked reasonably solid. Unlucky Skins, looked a blatant red from where I was standing, but did their player go over to easily? Great skill from Andy for the first goal. Manny didn't really look match fit. Most blatant pen for us near the end, Manny doing tricks in the box and their player trips him. Their number 5. . . . how did he get away with not getting booked? what was their keeper all about? Can he kick? Without Skins and Macca(?) in the replay, it's gonna be tough! But I think that we can do it at home.

Yeh good travelling support there today and the first half was great next to the Stortford fans. I 'think' we outsung them a lot of the time, definitely in the 2nd though.

Skinners sending off looked fair enough I suppose as if that was going against us we'd have wanted the player off. Although I don't think it was a deliberate proffesional foul, he was just going in for a challenge but timed it poorly. But the defence held together brilliantly, especially considering that for most of the game we had no defender playing in their natural position.

Drury really should have finished the game off for us twice I thought, and messed up both chances. But he had quite a good game, as did Manny who ran rings around them in the 1st half. I really think that if Manny had of been match fit and could have kept up his pressure on them until the end, we'd have not been under the cosh so much at the end. Very gutting to conceede a goal at the end like that but we should count our lucky stars that Manny got that goal just before Skins went off.

I'm not blaming him, he had a good game. But he should have taken his two excellent chances and that way we'd have won comfortably. He always tries to do just too much when in reality a shot after beating the first man is often enough.

Of course, he couldn't keep up his pressure on them until the end, because he was substituted. In mitigation, it's possible Manny was still feeling the after-effects of that hefty boot to the privates he seemed to receive midway through the second half. However, if not, bringing him off was (in hindsight, and of course it's easy to say it now) a mistake. There was less direct running at the Stortford defence once Pinno came on, meaning fewer opportunities to keep the ball in their half. The tide was gradually turning, and we just invited them onto us, which was disappointing to see.

Still, a draw away from home having played with ten men for the majority of the game and with two defenders going off injured is perfectly respectable - it's just the fact the equalizer came so late that's frustrating, of course. I'm sure I'd feel more satisfied if they'd equalized in the 60th minute or something.

That's what I was trying to say JC. I don't think he was subbed for a tactical change though, I reckon he was tired having not played in a while. The injury looked painful aswell.

i think Moussa has to be a realistic option on tuesday!! they really wont stand a chance of getting near him - unfortunately it seems that as much as fordy new what moussa was about liam maybe does not as yet - hence hardly 30mins in total of last 4 or 5 games . . . .

If Jukebox and Moose do pair up for the replay , althoogh jukes can play left wing wouldn't it be nice to see what Browny and Woolfie did under Sitford's reign ... both right wingers/right footed , but used to start left and right and swap every quarter of the match ? Give their crap defenders something to think about , being shot by both wings

Remember them well, on their day mesmerising!! Woolfie with his lazy deceptive way of running,a quick drop of a shoulder then he's gone,a great shot he had and a great header of the ball.

Brown was more direct going straight at defenders and frightening them with his pace and clever dribbling skills.his temperament sometimes let him down, happy memories, but that wont solve our defensive worries, we really have been very unlucky with our central defenders this season.

Anyone know if Lee Shearer got fixed up with another club?
