Sawbo 1 Enfield Town 1

Recommended Posts

Hall, Campbell, Baldwin, Gant, Penn, Negus, Nyman, Hall, Smith, Allen, Green, Riley, Pamplin, Snowden, Ndombe, Digby

First twenty minutes was all town pressure with Dean Green and Paul Campbell both having shots saved by O’Neill in full stretch saves. But in the 21st minutes Dan Wardle got a deflection to beat Chopper 1 – 0. It didn’t feel like it would be long before Enfield Town nailed one. Dean Green and Lee Smith playing head tennis into the arms of O’Neill.

Then we had a blatant foul on Paul Campbell in the box which Mr Chittock failed to give but soon after a seemingly minor knock outside the box was rewarded with a free-kick. On the 42nd minute Rudi Hall stepped up and smashed the ball past the wall collecting a deflection past O’Neill. 1- 1.

Town looked the better team and Sawbo accepted that by reverting to some rougher stuff.

Second half on a kick out Dean Nyman and their No 8 were both sent off for a minor disagreement. Whilst the real culprit No7 stayed on. He then went in with a back elbow on Rudi Hall. If Rudi had stayed down and let the ref deal with it 7 would surely have walked. Lee Smith was crippled by the Sawbo antics. The follow through on Chopper was uncalled for too! No7 was taken off by his manager before he was sent off. Kevin Riley came on for Lee Smith who was carried off. Kevin was brought down in the box by the No5 who then pretended he was injured to fool Mr Chittock!

Sawbo outclassed? Maybe but it wasn’t reflected in the score!

How would you know - you were at Brentwood! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It is perfectly clear to me that Town should have won 10-0 and would have done so if was not for the appalling state of the pitch and the obvious bias of the match officials. The fact the the referee blew his whistle louder for fouls against Sawbo than against Town makes that obvious. At least 7 Sawbo players should have been sent off as should the manager who clearly had a water pistol concelaed in a shoulder holster. Further, the home club is to be reported to the FA, UEFA, FIFA and the Gaming Commission for failing to draw the raffle at half time and without a celebrity, or Mystic Meg, in attendance. The shameful incident in the car park, when a steward wore a loud waistcoat directly in front of several Town fans, must surely be a matter for the police.

It is a testimony to the accurate yet restrained and understated prose of Compo's report that I am able to deduce the truth of the matter.

Tough encounter against Sawbo,as per.

Give Sawbo credit, they always give 100%.Whether that's shutting down players, tracking back, determination, intimidation, working over the ref.You name it, they will use every thing that can to get a result.

That is not meant as a criticism.I feel that they constantly get results above and beyond their playing ability, which is something to be admired.Saying that, its not hard to work over a ref a bad a Mr Chittock .When people criticize refs, its normally a matter of opinion and conjecture, but yesterday the official ultimatley failed in his basic responsablity to protect players well-being,and that in my eyes is not acceptable.

Yes he got nearly every big dicision wrong. We can live with that.In the ESL you have to.I won't even discuss blatent penalties not given, two players sent off for the most innocuous scuffle of the game, whilst elbows, punches, intimidation, and a mass brawl was allowed to go totally unpunished.

There was talk on this forum recently about cleaning up the ESL and improving the general conduct.I'm afraid as long as this 'Sunday morning tear-up' mentality continues to bear fruit for teams, there is no incentive to change.

And why did he start the game at five to three?

I have no desire to criticise referees, but after yesterday its hard not to think about it.

I understand yesterday's referee was being assessed, perhaps that affected his game and he bottled it? The Sawbo 5 and 7 certainly could/should have gone for their individual actions, while his use of the red card just aded to the inconsistency. Could it be that officials don't fancy the resulting paperwork, attending appeal hearings, etc. Could the disciplinary process work be working against referees, or maybe the lack of connecton with the outcomes has an effect?

Something for you all to think about.

Dave Allen stands in front of a thrower. The ball is thrown and the ref' stops the game to caution Dave. He is entitled to stand in front of the player provided he doesn't jump up and distract the thrower.

What happens next? The throw is retaken and Dave stands there again! Nothing! No caution. Why was he then booked in the first place you may ask?

Also. Why restart the game with a throw in? Had the ball gone out of play? Of course not.

Oh dear! It's lucky that no one got seriously hurt(or worse than Smithy, of course)

PS - Did anyone notice a certain gentleman from ETFC trying to put an advertising board back up after it fell down? He did a great job! Shame it was upside down. We have the pictures!!!

Each year FIFA discuss new rule changes. One of the rules on the table for change at the end of the season is Throw-ins.The proposal is to state that an opposing player must be a least a metre away from a player throwning the ball into play from the touchline. The ruling may be passed,it may not,but at present it is STILL legal to stand as close to the touchline as you want, when an opposition player is taking a throw-in.

My interpretation about the David Allen incident is this.He stood next to the touchline motionless with his arms by his side. The ref asked him to move away(which a referee is NOT entitled to do).Allen ignored the request to step back,so the ref booked him.Allen then stood in exactally the same position for the retaken throw, and the referee to no action.

Find that senario in the refereeing law-book ?
