I deleted a thread yesterday, something which I'm loathe to do but felt necessary thanks to the content of several posts. However, as a moderator I'm not here to delete posts purely because I or others dislike them. I don't agree with a lot of the postings made by the person going under the name optimistic but that doesn't mean I should delete them. Stirring that leads to debate is fine in my book. Stirring that is vindictive and where outrageous allegations are made will be dealt with, just as they were yesterday.

If somebody registers, turn out to be a bit whiffy and gets banned all they have to do is register with a different name. IP addresses can be blocked but if they are not operating from a fixed IP then that is not possible. It isn't difficult to register bogus email addresses either.

As for the poster from yesterday, I have kept a record of what they said and noted down the IP address from where the person made the allegations. Rather foolishly they did so from their school and would be very easy to identify from login times. Any further grief from them and there may be repurcussions.

you have taken anons bate hook line and sinker, this person just wants to get a reaction and he/she has acheived this, iwould try to ignore this but as i have said in the past let anons use the site because we do have lots of constructive messages that do start good debates which we should encourage.Football clubs come with rumors and whispers,if you go to todays game you will probably hear something new, thats football. We have had a good season the real supporters are aware of this as are the players, but lets not stop free speech, sometimes you have to grit your teeth and move on,because as we all know in football every day is different. If any players come on this site, let me assure you that most supporters are more than happy with your results and commitment to Slough Town.We do have problems but they are off the pitch and neither supporters or players can do much about this.Up the rebels.

Would that be the same school I post from sometimes?

By allowing these moronic ANON posters to invade this site and post cr*p, will cause the sites loss of credibility with serious posters.

The argument that all should be allowed to post either registerd or not has lead to liabilous comments about a player this week from an anon poster.

Whilst this site remains open to anons it will be an easy target for these idiots to target.

Have the courage to give this site the credibility it deserves/needs by removing anon posts.

Dear Mr Anon,

Your postings are not very helpful.

1) I can only recall one player getting slagged off unfairly on this forum which I thought was uncalled for in Christian Metcalfe, which I said at the time.

Mets shoved it back down the whingers faces with excellent performances - the best way to do it. Nobody else from what I have read has been slagged off. There have been a few mentions about players such as Veli, but it's constructive criticism as we know how good he can be and he has not been at his best this season and we know what a clas-act Veli is.

2) Nonsense about fans not getting behind the team. 200+ Rebels in one section at Gravesend getting behind the team! A song made up by the Barmy Army about nearly every player in the team (barring Dann Cann and Leigh Mason if anyone has any ideas!) and constant travelling number of well over 100 to away games despite our pretty poor away record. Excellent for a side with no ground and singing throughout the match.

3) I'm sure Hodgey is not happy. He's a striker and wants to play there i'm sure, but needs must and we can't go throwing money around on new players. He will get back up front eventually.

4) Leaving anon messages about monies not being paid is hardly going to raise morale in fans minds is it. Just encourages them to think 'oh here we go again, not being paid, so a half-hearted performance - I won't bother going'. Also raises peoples fears for the club and makes the atmosphere at games awful as fans are more worried about having a team to support than concentrating on events on the pitch.

5) If your concerns are true and you are worried, go and by all-means have a word with Chris Sliski, Gary Thomas, Alan Harding or Mike Lightfoot - everyone knows who they are. You may be right to raise fears as saying something could help, but you are so, so going the wrong way about it posting anon messages...

Rant Over

Chris

Totally and completely disagree. We have received many helpful postings regarding liquid refreshment, or pre match kick about from non-registered posters. We regularly get friendly fans from other clubs posting messages prior to our matches, and after them.

The simple answer is to blank anonymous posters who write drivel, and only respond to posters who have a valid point to make. Too many people feel they have to respond to everything posted.

PS Try Grammar not grammer, and their wages not there wages.

I totally agree paul, where would we be without out kick abouts pre-match usually in part organised by anons from the opposition side? or direcions to the best pubs?

aside from that there are some anon posters who DO contribute some good to the forum, its always nice to have a different view point, as long as there is some substance to it and its not just a blatant slanderous attempt to wind us and the club up...

Ignore the nasty, worthless comments but praise where a decent or thought provoking comment is given...thats my rule of thumb

What's the point in banning anonymous posters? They'll just sign in using a name like 'optimistic' which is tantamount to being anonymous anyway because they're scared to reveal their identify and prefer to hide behind an alias.

One of them the other day made reference to how many replies their post had received. If that's not indicative of the fact they're just doing it to feed their own ego's then I don't know what is. Just completely blank them and they'll get bored. Keep feeding them and they'll keep coming back for more.

Deliberately provocative statements made by anonymous posters have no credibility in my view so I just ignore them.
