Stewards- A Thank You.

Recommended Posts

I took my girlfriends kids to the game last night and the youngest one had an unfortunate accident with one of the crash barriers which ended up with him sustaining a nasty cut under his eye.

Can I just state here just how impressed I was by the attitude and actions taken by the stewards (and office staff) who dealt with the whole incident, right from the lovely steward who comforted him when it happend, to the steward who let his brother watch the game for a short while from the players tunnel and to the stewards who made sure his Mum was brought into the ground as quickly as possible. The amount of concern and compassion they showed for him and his brothers welfare restored my faith in the club. He ended up being taken into the home dressing rooms where he was cleaned up by the club doctor and his Mum met up with a half dressed Roy E. (She liked that bit!)

A special word of thanks to Chris Baker, (someone who I have criticised for the Scarborough debacle.... Whoops!) I know he intends to make sure Conor is suitably rewarded for his bravery last night and does he deserve rewarding or what! Lets just say that the amount of claret knocking around was bad enough to make Roy and Manny flinch when they saw him!

It was a long night with a disapointing result on the pitch and we did end up in A&E as the cut reopened later last night, but the stewards certainly helped as much as possible.

Thanks again!

Andy thanks for the message I hope the youngen is okay and tell him not to worry I've checked the crush barrier and there's no damage...just kidding!!

I was pleased with the reaction of the stewards to your incident last night especially the lady who cleaned up the wound who I thought was excellent and don't forget the offer I made you for a future match still stands just give me a call.

Finally before I go the reason we segregated Saturday and not yesterday is very simple. We are advised by both the visiting club and police intelligence as to the expected number of visiting supporters and on Saturday we were told there could be 100 or so whereas yesterday we were told probably no more than 40. We have to prepare in advance for these matches and we also take into consideration the number of stewards available which believe it or not requires less for segregated games. Personally I like unsegregated games like last night especially when you get a friendly bunch like the Halifax crowd were last night to my mind that's what non league is about but unfortunately as the football leagues security has got tighter so the toe rags that want to cause trouble now find it far easier to get into games at our level meaning we do sometimes have to be cautious. I hope this answers your question and I hope you all found the stewarding okay last night.

Once again best wishes to the little fella with the shiner and see you all up at Bishop Stortford.

Can you unsegregate a match when you realise the numbers predicted have not shown up? Get to say, half time if the people you thought were going to turn up don't can you then take down the tape.
