The form table suggests Woking - and guess who we're playing next Tuesday?

A fair point, since a defeat was always very plausible, but it's still disappointing to see a side that's won 4-0 at the weekend broken up. Leaving out Manny despite the fact he was allegedly fit to play you can half understand, since we will need him on Saturday with Roy struggling and Siggy cup-tied. But the other changes, assuming Liam was just resting them, were a little disappointing to see.

The general consensus seems to be that we were robbed on a few decisions last night, but overall it's hard to deny that Halifax were the better side. Bunce really struggled for pace again at the back, and Protheroe was somewhat below-par - but then I suppose it's harsh to single out players when most of them were below their best.

The thing that annoyed me most last night, though, was the attendance - despite a 4-0 win on Saturday, about 400 home fans present at that one decided not to bother this time. Of course, some people will always have perfectly valid reasons (such as work), but a drop that extreme after such a good win at the weekend was hard to take, even with the football on television. As has been mentioned on confguide, it's a shame ITV's Champions' League games aren't on Wednesdays like they used to be, which would avoid them clashing with most midweek domestic games.

Something i noticed last night, we were a quiet team. The communication was poor, on Saturday it was great. As my rugby coach is always reminding us, a quiet team is a losing team. And has been mentioned above, even if we played our team from Saturday, they would still have got the three points. They did a very good, professional job.

I had that sinking feeling after about 15 minutes when I saw Halifax's pace, passing and running off the ball.

Whilst I agree the lino and ref were really poor, I also got the impression that Halifax, like all the very best teams we have seen this year had that ability to step up a gear at will.

Although we may feel that 3-0 flattered them, I suspect we could also be thinking that had they really opened the throttles they could have whupped us by 5 or 6 goals.

The trouble is, our league season is all but dead already - we cant get anywhere near the play offs, and we wont be relegated either.

Its not surprising, therefore, that Liam has taken the (in my view) sensible option of resting important players for once.

If McCarthy were injured (or Manny) we'd be short of key players on Saturday. Captain Macca works hard every game so a rest for him, also seems the right thing to have done.

Surey hadnt played for a while, and may be needed in the final weeks of the season (particularly if we have to play 2 games a week or more to the end of season), Jacko equally hadnt had much match practice, and Bunce hadnt played for a few weeks. Last nights match did, therefore serve a useful purpose.

They looked very slick 1st half, and simply sat back playing the "big boot" after half time, when we rarely threatened.

Of course, there were chances - had Proths corner been an inch or two lower, mid way through the half, the game would have changed - ditto, Siggy's disallowed goal, or his penalty appeal.

It was disappointing to lose - lets face it, every fan wants to see their side win - but, whereas I normally feel quite fed up after a defeat, our position in the league left me thinking I wasnt too concerned.

And if we get past Bishops Stortford on Saturday and go on to the Trophy Final, or even manage to win it, I'll care even less that we lost last night.

Also we went unbeaten to the end of the season last year and I don't think that is very likely this year.

We should be safe from relegation and as long as we remain part-time that is probably our realistic target each season.

We are still in two cups so there is more to play for at this stage than we had last season.

While it was disappointing last night we shouldn't get to down about the result. The officials ruined the game for us in the end but I think Halifax are definitely the most organised team to visit us so far this season. Great composure at the back from them and a very solid midfield meant we found it very hard to get in many attacks. And their pace up front tore us apart at the back. Thought Bunce struggled against their pacy men up front and that is a worry with Porter looking out for the next few weeks.

I think Liam took the right decision to rest some key players too as the trophy is our last chance of getting anything this season. We're not gonna go anywhere in the league over the next few months except for maybe a couple of places up or down. Success in the trophy might increase gates, will bring in some cash and will be a great confidence booster for next season.

Resting players under that complacent attitude might not be the best idea when relegation hasn't been mathematically avoided yet. I know it's unlikely, but whatever happened to putting out your strongest side? I must be the nostalgic streak in me I suppose. Leaving out Manny did make sense, though, with Siggy cup-tied on Saturday.

Got to be our lowest conference crowd hasnt it??

The lowest recorded on confguide for our Conference/Alliance Premier home games is 674:

Certainly the lowest in our current Conference stint though.

I agree with the comments above and apologise for my rant!!!!! The league is almost finished for us this season, so it is logical to concentrate on trying to win the FA Tropghy, which would be special and bring some much needed money to the club. I hope we do perform on Saturday and make the semi's!!!!

Look here for prize money...

...and here for gate receipt distribution for the final - rule 23 (B) (ii)

I think that our lowest gate was something under 200 for a match with AP Leamington, but I'll have to research that further.

I believe hoagy was originally researching past attendances for confguide, but understandably gave up after that Hereford bloke nicked all confguide's stuff for his website. Unfortunately, the one thing that the Jubilee Year Book is missing is attendances.
