Slough Town 3-1 Windsor & Eton

Despite going behind to a late 1st half goal, Slough bounced back and (with a little help from Windsor goalkeeper Chuck Martini) deservedly claimed a 3-1 victory.

Slough started this local derby, re-arranged from December 27, and immediately went on the attack, but Matt Seedel was caught offside following a through ball.

Soon afterwards Glen Harris went close with a shot from the edge of the area. Josias Carbon also squandered a good chance when he put a shot over the bar following James Saulsbury’s long ball.

Windsor also had their fair share of possession, but made their first real attack of the game, forcing Shaun Allaway into a good save from a shot from the edge of the area.

Windsor’s recent signing, Jamie Jarvis from Hampton & Richmond Borough managed to get himself sent off by entering a fight between players from both teams, sparking celebrations amongst the Slough fans!

But for all Slough’s efforts, 45 minutes of football went unrewarded as they were undone by basic defensive errors. A Windsor forward tapped the ball in following a goalmouth scramble.

2nd half

Rebels manager Eddie Denton obviously wasn’t happy with the way the team had performed during the first half, and sent the team out some 5-10 minutes early, but they had to wait 20 minutes for an equaliser. Matt Murphy’s shot from close range was saved by Chuck Martini, the ball bounced to midfielder Veil Hakki who managed to miss the ball completely, but Matt Seedel was on hand to smash in the rebound.

The hosts took the lead when Chuck Martini went to punch a ball, but missed it, and the ball bounced over the line from the back of Matt Murphy’s head.

Windsor hit back almost straight away, but a shot went wide when a Windsor forward went one-on-one with Shaun Allaway whilst under pressure.

The Rebels almost undid their own comeback when Shaun Allaway went to clear the ball, but it rebounded off a Windsor player. Luckily for him, the ball went well wide of the goal.

Slough nearly put the game beyond any doubt, but Daniel Cann’s shot from Leigh Mason’s through ball was saved by the feet of Chuck Martini.

The Rebels made amends for that mistake when Matt Murphy scored his second of the game for 3-1. Leigh Mason’s shot was saved by Martini, but the ball went high over the area and Murphy managed to direct the ball into the empty net.

How wrong does one report want to be?

Firstly it was hardly a tap in!

Attendance 428 i think

Not gomis...he's still missing.

"The Rebels almost undid their own comeback when Shaun Allaway went to clear the ball, but it rebounded off a Windsor player. Luckily for him, the ball went well wide of the goal."

Cleared by a defender and it went about a 1 yard over the goal

2-1 would of been deserved not 3-1

Still i'm not bitter...honest

Lets try:-

"As Martini went to make a routine catch he was clattered by an on rushing Slough player leaving Murphy to finish. An exact replica of an earlier incident which led to a Windsor goal being disallowed."

And before anyone says anything, this is not sour grapes, you scored more than us with three scrappy goals.

The first should have been cleared, the second one shouldn't have counted and the third would have been a penalty if it hadn't of gone in so two of the three should have counted.

Basically, we could've got a point if not three even with ten men. We had the chances but didn't take them. You had and took your chances, end of.

You miss the professional foul on Seedel in the first half which the ref ignored for some reason, so it could, and should, have been nine men.

Our second was far from being identical to the incident you refer to as well. Allaway was catching the ball above head height and the Windsor player had to jump through him to get the ball, knocking him on the shoulder, which clearly affects the keepers ability to catch the ball. The goal was a ball which Chuck was attempting to catch as chest height with his arms outstretched in front of him with Murphy challenging.

That said, I thought it was a foul initially, but the video clip I have doesn't really clear it up either.

I went into yesterday's game with some trepidation, but I thought we played really well yesterday, personally I don't think the match report above was a fair reflection. First half we were the better team, our wingers had the beating of the Slough full back's time after time, Joe Narty I thought was excellent up front, pulling the centre halves out of position, to create huge amounts of space for Peter Holsgrove, who I thought was our man of the match last night, he is thriving in that position in the 'hole'. Lee Holsgrove was another who didn't give Veli Haki an inch of room all game. We had three or four golden opportunities to increase our lead unfortunately for us we didn't take them. I think what disappoints me in the above match report is that we were reduced to ten men, but still took the game to Slough, we certainly didn't sit back and just try and protect our lead which is a great credit to us. For 60 minutes I can honestly say I thought there was only one team who were really up for it, and that was Windsor, the players gave their all. Slough got the equaliser, the second goal, Malc I'm not sure, having seen some of Chuck's errors this season with his catching, I think it was 50:50, and I've always been one who believes keepers get over protection and the fact the ref had a clear sight I think the right decision was made 1-2. However I do believe we should have then had a cast iron penalty, the ball hit the guys hand in the area and to me his left arm was moving upwards, and was not accidental as the ref pointed out. The Slough third was ineviatable as we chased for an equaliser. Overall 3-1 flattered Slough, if any SLough fan disagrees with that, then I think they are blinkered as for 60 minutes we were the superior side. In my first line I said I feared this game with trepidation prior to kick off, now I'm looking forward to easter Monday, because with eleven men we've certainly got the beating of Slough. I think all Windsor fans should be proud of the way the team were really fired up for last night, and with Dave's recent signings the team is really coming together and the future bodes really well.

Speaking of blinkers have you read Mal's report of the turning point incident in the first half? Pathetic. I know you have to try and justify the wages you are paying that thug but I have never read such biased reporting (and that is saying something at this level).

I thought the first half was fairly even with both sides having decent chances. The second half was rather inevitable with your boys sitting back and trying to hit us on the counter attack. Our second goal was perfectly fair and nothing like your disallowed "goal." I was not close enough to comment on your penalty appeal in the same way I doubt you can really comment on the incident when in the first half it was two on one and Seedal was hacked down. A decision the ref bottled.

I guess that's the beauty of football when you stand behind the goals is difficult to get true pictures of what happens at other ends of the pitch. I guess the one thing that keep cropping here is the inadequacy of the ref makes you look forward to Miss Chapman on Easter Monday doesn't it!!!!!!!

Blinkers, ha!! I was not saying that he shouldn't have een sent off. He deserved to go. BUT having been grabbed around the throat and head butted there should have been a red card against one of two if not both Slough players.

I was not saying your second goal was a foul or not, but as he had disallowed a goal for a similar challenge earlier then he should have disallowed that one to.

Looking at the two incidents, Allaway was stretcing up to catch the ball so any player trying to challenge for the ball will just go up with him. Martini was collecting the ball at chest height with his back to the attacking player so the only the attacker can win the ball is by going through the back of him.

Again I am not saying that the goal should have been disallowed but this was blatent inconsistancy.

Mal watch the video of our second goal on the website and you will see you are talking rubbish. You appear to be the only person in the ground who saw a headbutt on Jarvis. There was no similarity at all between the Allaway inicident and the Martini clanger so there is no question of consistency.

It seems that after every game I read that Chuck has gifted the opposition a goal. Coincidence? It must be tough giving every team a one nil headstart and always be on the edge of going down to ten men.

The second goal was definitely not a foul. Simple case of 'keeper coming to punch/catch, not getting anything on it, and striker getting a head to it/ball hitting him on head and going in.

First half was fairly even in my view. In the second half I had a terrible feeling for a while that we weren't going to make the one man advantage count, but in the end we did. Yes Windsor had chances but then we had loads too - Carbon not connecting to a cross properly in the first half; Cann missing an easy chance in the second (he also hit the post too I think); Mason; couple of others too. And I don't agree that Windsor were the better side for 60 minutes at all.

The sending off was key as I think the game would have been more even in the second half but if you're gonna sign Mr. Liability and make him your captain (and put another liability in goal), you have to expect things like this. Windsor will give a much better account of themselves at Easter.

We didn't get anything when the teams met last April. Other than a 4-1 win that is.

Oh stop moaning! You lost to the better team, simple as! Maybe if you psycho captain learnt how to control himself you would of had a better chance.

Have a look at the video evidence, Chuck clearly bottles it and drops the ball when Murph approaches him.

See you in two weeks!
