It's a bit quiet on here today.............

.....considering we won 3-2 on Saturday....... and that's the most talented squad since Cockram's and possibly even Billy Minter's.

A 4-4-2 formation. Playing the ball through the midfield rather than ignoring them. Real qwality on display. The Management are getting the message.

Well done.

To be honest, AFF, I've been keeping a bit of a low profile on here recently. What with the enormous strains of making a bollix of EFM's fixtures list (I can't even be bothered to go into it in detail, but I'm sure that GHA will have filled you in by now), doctoring pictures of Don King (so that his hair is made entirely of kittens) and drinking myself into a stupor, I haven't had much time to post my messages on here. Not that my messages usually make much sense anyway, but that is besides the point.

Saturday - six of one, half a dozen of the other. On the positive side, a win is a win, a couple of the newcomers were impressive and, as we all know, it'll take a team that has been warming up playing the like of the "mighty" Hemel Hempstead, Stotfold and Fisher Athletic a little while to adjust to the heady heights of the Ryman Premier. On the minus side, I'm a little concerned that the team had soooo much possession in the second half but didn't create that many chances. I'd also have to throw in the point that City probably won't play a weaker team than Ford in the league this season, and feeling relieved at the end to have won 3-2 was somewhat irksome. Question time: what would Grays, Aldershot or Hayes have made of it all? Would they have been scared of playing City? (Obviously, I'm disregarding the presence of EFM at these matches - a truly terrifying prospect, I'm sure you'll agree). That said however, there were enough positives to outweigh the negatives, and a team with so many new players is going to take a while to gel. Quite a relief that the next two matches against Aylesbury and Maidenhead - both of whom are eminently beatable teams.

I think we have much to look forward to. Oakes, Castle, Crawshaw and De Souza are all experienced pros - I wouldn't expect any of them to do anything less than their damnedest to win. It's in the established pros' mentality. One final thought... no matter what happens, in the ultimate scheme of things it can't be as bad as last season, can it...?

And the odds are shortening all the time. 33/1 before the Ford match with http://www.bet365.com and now 28/1. What price on Wednesday morning? I hear you ask. Somebody at Clarence Park knew what they were doing, getting on the Saints at 50/1. I just wish it had been me.

Hi Trev.

I've missed our exchanges but I was sure that you weren't far away.

The point in my first post was that the individuals in this squad are the most talented footballers to wear the yellow and blue for a very long time. If they can be retained, it's not a case of giving other clubs a surprise; those odds of 50 or 33/1 were made in anticipation of a makeshift team. Every Manager in the Ryman League will be aware of the talent on that team-sheet.

On Saturday it was 90+ in the shade. The first game and, yes, the opposition weren't the strongest. Maybe they took the foot off the gas when we were two up at half-time. The lapses in concentration were punished. But it was great to see the individual football ability of a number of the new boys.

It's going to be good this season.

[Clearly, De Souza and Crawshaw suffered no long term effects of their mauling at the hands of The Reserves at Farnborough last season.]
