And I've been supporting them since the 1960's, and I'm optimistic every season.
You've got to be to love football, and to travel 100 miles each way whenever you can.
Being a Rebel is about following the team through thick and thin, and cheering them on whatever happens.
Once a Rebel, always a Rebel

If you have been watching Slough all them years then perhaps you could explain to these other posting peeps, that I am totally right in my declaration that no present member of this years team would make a "top" Slough eleven, or to be fair a top Slough thirty.

It was me...oh no it was not !!!!

It will be great to make mid table, after such a fantastic season...who can ever moan about this team ! Yes they have their off days like we all do....however team spirt and the football at times has been as good as it ever has !

I have watched Slough for over 40 years...and this team and manager rate as one of the best !

Ok we might be in the Ryman Premier...but for me the way we have battled and played and the way our supporters have taken to this team has been second to none....

Up the Rebels.....

4 wins out of eight will help.

cheers chris sliski

Optimistic does have a point about past teams, but back then we did have better finances which meant we could aquire a better player, but fair play we have had a good season,we need more points on the board now rather than talking about promotion.Agree Eddie has done very well. One point of order, did we get promoted or did we finish high enough to be included in the new league set up.As for Alex very good player,if i were he i would have done the same and he did come on this site and explain his reasons.

'Proper' promotion would have been finishing top and winning the play-offs like Lewes did. In essence by finishing 4th we avoided relegation - still not a bad achievement though. If it weren't for one dodgy result we would have won that league (but Windsor et al could say the same of course)

It was more a half or mini promotion. Obviously we did not move up the pyramid in terms of leagues as we are still two divisions behind the conference. However, at this level last season there were 113 teams, this season there are 66, so to a certain degree we have moved up.

And it's fair to say the quality of football is much better in this league. In the Ryman One South there were probably only 7 or 8 half-decent teams with the rest being (current) Division One quality.

(in need of an) Optometrist does have something but it is not a point!

The late great John Peel once said when asked why he constantly championed new music and not just played his 'greatest hits' over and over, said 'its the same as Liverpool FC, it does not matter how many European Cups you win or how great Kenny Daglish was, at the end of the season it's just history. What is really exciting is the new season. Not whether it is better or worse but that it is now, and now is always better than then.

Peel understood the basic nature of 'the fan' whether of music or football. The choice is put on a rhinestone suit and claim the 'King' never died and listen to Elvis' greatest Hits on a tape loop for the rest of your life. Or acknowledge the debt but embrace the now and enjoy the moment. They may never better Elvis, but he's not playing centre forward tonight. That is what matters.

" I have watched Slough for over 40 years...and this team and manager rate as one of the best"

Well if you really believe that Chris, then you and football don't have an understanding.

Are you saying its as good as the side that played at Wembley in th final? Are you saying its anywhere near the sides that played Skemesdale twice ? Do you maintain that these lads now are as good as Delaney-Mead-D'Arcy,Ray Eaton,Ian Reid,Roy Sleap,Reardon,Jimmy Brown,Chris Mullen,Les Hartridge,Roger Day,Mickey Chatterton,Geoff Anthony,Peter Wright, Kenny Kent,Jimmy Adams,Keiron Summers,Roger Connell,Thompson, David Kemp,John Richardson,Peter Feeley etc etc etc-I have not even bothered listing the goalkeepers, but i will mention Paul Barron who went on to play for Arsenal IN THE FIRST TEAM!!!

Be fair Chris-get a grip !!!!!!!!

Chicken used to taste better in the 70's. Flares; now they were proper trousers,Bless this House cutting edge comedy and Christmas was proper back then with Action Man and Eat Me dates.

You think DVD's and central heating are progress, Chris you are havin a larff..

Opti me old mate you want to get out more. Football is like hunger. Just because I had the best meal of my life in 1987 does not mean I won't have a cheese sandwhich for lunch today and enjoy it. Just like I enjoyed last night against Windsor. Strangely when we were larfffing at Chucky the first thought that entered my head was not how Joe Brigthorpe from the 1976 team would have challenged him much better than Smurph2... Still if it keeps you warm at night you wallow on in your nostalgia bath.

OPTIMISTIC

BEEN SUPPORTING THE REBELS SINCE DAYS OF DELANEY AND CO AND AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAY BUT THOSE PLAYERS WERE PLAYING IN TEAMS EQUIVALENT TO TODAYS CONFERENCE SIDES EVEN HIGHER.

JUST LIKE THE PLAYERS WHO PLAYED FOR TEAMS LIKE HENDON, ENFIELD, (LEYTONSTONE, ILFORD, DAGERHAM) HARWICH AND PARKSTONE, BISHOPS STORFORD, TOOTING AND MITCHAM, WALTON AND HERSHAM, BET SUPPORTERS WOULD BE SAYING THE SAME THING ABOUT THERE TEAMS OF THE PAST.

WE ARE IN THE PRESENT AND WHAT EDDIE AND THE TEAM HAVE DONE OVER THE LAST EIGHTEEN MONTHS WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS ON AND OFF THE FIELD HAS TO BE APPLAUDED.
