Just been confirmed as off now. The match referee had not seen the pitch and therefore there was nothing to call off until he'd seen it. Now that he has, he's postponed it.

All of this, it's off, no it isn't yet business is exactly the reason why the club should say absolutely nothing until the referee (the only one with the authority to call it off) has made a decision.

 

When it's off then it's off and up until that point, irrespective of anyone else's views it's on.

I thought that the home club website and forum might just know what they were talking about, as they were there? Not unreasonable?

Taking your scenario, then Gary or Chris who run the STFC website could/should announce that a game is off?! Both fine chaps but neither is qualified (as far as I know) to make the call on whether the pitch is playable.

Not unreasonable Ray, but considering they had the pitch inspection for 10am and then calling it off before an official arrives?

The Isthmian forum says the inspection was at 9.10, in which case the Folkestone website and forum were correct and well informed. When the oppositions website says its off, it is likely to be reliable, so I'm with Ray on this one.

Experience? They were obviously sure that it would be called off. I posted what I saw on the web site in good faith to try to prevent anyone travelling in vain, they probably did the same.

Can't argue with that in the slightest, but I'll wait to hear from Roy before confirming anything on here. Having spoken to him after the posts were made on the Folkestone forum, he said that the match official had not inspected the pitch so the match, at that time (9:50), had not yet been officially postponed.

No point Slough saying it's off when it's not 100% off. Yeah okay folkestone are Pretty sure it's off but the ref might say it's ok

The referee had not arrived therefore the match was not officially off - FACT!

There is a post on the Isthmian forum saying the inspection was at 9.10. This fits in with the time of the posts on the Folkestone sites.

 

It seems likely that the ref turned up early.

It may have been, but that does not preclude in any way the statement that the inspection took place at 9.10---a statement that there is no evidence was incorrect.

 

A final point, we must both be stupid to end up arguing over this.
