Has anyone seen the back pages of the Slough Express today?

'With the death of Alan Thorne, responsibility for Wexham Park Stadium falls entirely on his son Byron.

The son did not share his enthusiasm for football as his father, but any hopes that fans may still harbour of a return to their former home, now rests sqaurely with the son.

The present leader of Slough Borough Council, Richard Stokes, has said that he wants to see the Rebels back at Wexham Park, where the pitch is still maintainted in terrific nick.

His job, now, is to persuade Byron Thorne to come to the negotiating table to dicuss how the nine acre site may be made available to the club again.

It might be a fitting legacy to the work of Alan Thorne if this could be accomplished, with the son fulfilling the dream of his father'

So now hes interested????

I can't imagine Byron will want to lose out on those 9 acres of land when it's made available for building houses on as that would be worth a few million quid to him, unless the council can work some magic? Even so, will it be in our benefit to move back there? The deal would have to be on good terms for the club and on a long term deal to make it worthwhile, and I can't see that happening.

no Woody because unless we have complete control over all the income coming in, we'd be in the same situation we are in now which is something the council seems to be unable to grasp. Either that or we would have to average over seven hundred a home game to even hope of moving upward

Can anyone suggest how this is something new? Everyone involved with Slough wants to return to Wexham Park Stadium. With respect, the death of Alan Thorne has little to do with the football club moving back to its home. If he were still with us, the club would still be fighting to return there. So please, someone answer how the article brings anything fresh to the table?

It doesn't. It uses all the right words though - it appears Stokes wants to help the club. We all know the situation but the council and others still seem unable to grasp the fact that unless we get back to Wexham Park on our terms (i.e the right terms) it is an entirely empty gesture.

it doesn't bring anything new unless either a) the club either through Deaner or the Trust buys the entire site and allows us to keep all the extra income or B) the council brokers a deal which allows to keep a majority of the income. Now do any of those sound even remotely plausible and does anyone on the Council actually understand that going back to Wexham Park would essentially be a groundshare?

In answer to those questions it is no and no but it is like banging your head against a brick wall.
