'JUDAS' GUNS FOR BOO-BOYS

 

Hornchurch's riches-to-rags squad go to dark-horse-turned-champions-elect Grays still clinging on to the coat-tails of the play-off places.

 

Their position owes much to the 34 points from 15 games prior to the collapse of former backer Karl Williams' Carthium Group in November. They have managed only 14 points from 17 games since.

 

Before then, Hornchurch were practically unbackable for the title with Grays the only other side given a sniff. But it's the Blues who are 13 points clear at the top now with next season's Conference place all but in the bag.

 

Striker Steve West, one of the Hornchurch Five who signed for Grays with team-mates Ashley Bayes, Lee Matthews, Jamie Stuart and John Martin, was on the scoresheet when the sides met weeks later.

 

West admits he had mixed feelings over the goal but would relish another this weekend.

 

"I had a bad feeling before the game," West said. "I had a lot of friends who were still at the club and I didn't want to bury them any further.

 

"I didn't celebrate the goal but I got slaughtered for a while after the game which was very upsetting.

 

"They were calling me 'Judas' and saying 'break your other leg' because I was out for most of 2004 with a broken leg. I'd given everything for the club but I'll certainly celebrate if I score this time.

 

"I don't know why I was singled out. Ashley and John didn't get any stick - but with me the feeling was bitter.

 

"There's no way I could have imagined the season would turn out like this. I always get asked if Hornchurch would be where Grays are if they hadn't gone bust but I think it would have always been close between them and us.

 

"Grays was a great move. I could have gone to Dagenham but when I spoke to (Grays director of football) Mick Woodward I was sold because of how ambitious he is for the club.

 

"We're really moving forward - but in steps rather than one big jump."

Steve - we didn't want you to 'break your other leg' at all, either one would have been fine.

 

celebrate all you like, as we'll be celebrating the fact that we no longer have such a selfish judas at the club. "I had a lot of friends at the club..." not anymore judas, you burnt those bridges when you slagged everyone off on your way out of the door.

 

we may well be throwing photos of ourselves and cameras onto the pitch, urging you to "take our pictures"

He Just Answered His Own Question Surley ?

The man is a first rate scum-bag. Couldn't wait to tell everyone how we were the "Chelsea of non league football" last season, how wonderful the club was, what a great club to play for (Yes, I know they all say that.... but even so) and who was the first (and couldn't wait) to jump ship, step forward :Westy. A man who was looked after like a P'Ship player after his leg break op, the best of everything in his rehab, yet showed his true colours in November. I know all players have the right to make a living, especially at this level, but there's ways of going about things and Westy behaved shamefully.

Won't b able to make it tomorrow, but give him bundles of stick lads, no one deserves it more. As for his comments about Ash, Lee M and Johnny Martin not getting abuse, just shows we are not all as stupid as him when it comes to seeing the REAL picture. JM deserves all the luck in the world (apart from tomorrow) in his career, Westy I'm afraid has burnt to many bridges to be offered the same.
