Although a minor competition, can someone tell us how many people were there as it was a chance for the people who cannot get to Ashford to see the team.

Anyone who belittles this competition probably wasn't at Gillingham when we beat (CK's) Dover!!

Great days indeed!!

I can confirm that about 90% of the people who were at Gillingham that day weren't there last night.

Don't know the exact crowd but if all the people who are supposedly not going to Ashford (and Dover before) because it's too far away can't even be bothered to go to Ramsgate it's a bit disturbing. I think we've lost a lot of fans forever and our hardcore is basically the same amount of fans as we get at Ashford.

I know at least half a dozen people who told me they're still fans but Ashford / Dover's too far away - they weren't at last nights game. Yes, it was cold etc etc etc but you'd have thought these kind of people would be dying to see a game and would make sure they got to a rare game in Thanet.

Not really, it was the Kent Senior Cup v Cray (a nothing game in a nothing comp) and the [****!!****] were on the telly. Don't worry, get back to Margate and the deserters will come back out of the woodwork.

If you're a true fan there are no 'nothing' games and if you're a supposedly true fan who hasn't been going to Ashford or Dover then surely nothing would stop you seeing the game last night. Our hardcore fanbase is about 150 and has been for about the last 30 years, if we'd struggled in the Conference at Hartsdown crowds would have been our 150 plus whatever away support.

I met quite a few there who do not go to Ashford, but still followed the team. One guy in particular I talked to was going to try now to get to some Ashford games if he could sort out the transport.

Hopefully we could get up a friendly with a big club to start our season back at Hartsdown, this could give us a lot of publicity and get the bums on seats at the outset. At least, that's what I would try to do. Perhaps with some other events as well, half-time entertainment and whatnot. Big carnival opening.

Of course there are nothing games. Look at the crowds in other KSC games this season. Look at Gravesend getting 240 for Stevenage in the GLS Cup the other week. Does that mean all those who didn't go to Stonebridge Road that night are not true fans? No, it means they have a life.

In fact, you could argue a run in the Kent Senior Cup with our tiny squad (and we're still not totally safe from the drop) is a bad thing. What if we had picked up a couple of bad injuries last night? What kind of mess would that have left CK in on Saturday?

So if you 'have a life' you don't bother with KSC games. All those there last night don't have lives ? As far as I'm concerned people who weren't there without having a much better reason than 'it was a nothing game' aren't true fans. A true fan obviously wants to see his or her team as much as possible. Bet your life lots of them would turn up for the Final of the KSC, likewise the final of the Conference Cup. Suddenly it's not 'a nothing game' then - it's the same competition.

Where do you draw the line – are 'true fans' expected to go to reserve games? The youth team? Training sessions? Watch the groundsman during the week? People support their team in different ways, we're not all elitist anoraks.

For the record, here are some of this season's KSC 'crowds':

Cray v Chatham – 50

Dartford v Folkestone – 129

Erith v Folkestone – 82

Tonbridge v Gravesend – 201

Ashford v Sittingbourne – 139

Welling v Dartford – 184

So, last night could have been the highest KSC crowd of the season!

All I can say is those who missed this "nothing" game actually did miss "something". Seeing your team come through a hard fought battle in extra time and seeing 7 goals makes for quite a pleasant experience ( not including the hypothermia in this statement though ).

Whoever you are who stated that only a true fan will go to any game even if its the KSC I'm afraid you are talking rubbish. I live in Croydon and apart from working last night it is just not cost effective for me travel down to Ramsgate for a match like that. I can't get to Ashford every week, due to work, but I try to make as many games as possible. I will do the same next year when we are back at Hartsdown , so its not the distance. What I do however is support the club by being in the Golden Gate lottery, and volunteering my time last week to update the web site for Webmaster. I log onto this website a number of times everyday to find out what is going on. as you can see from my logon, Margateshot, I have also been a lifelong Aldershot supporter. I have not attended a match there for nearly two seasons now for one reason, and that is that Margate need my money more at this time. Look at the attendances in other county competitions and they are all low. Lets not get into the territory of "I'm a better supporter than you" syndrome on this site. Someone posted a couple of days ago how the mood has changed on this Forum after the announcement that we are going back to hartsdown. Lets keep that sort of mood going and not get into silly squabbles. Lots of people will not and have never attended these sort of matches because they are deemed unimportant. If there were we would have Gillingham and Charlton entering them like years ago.

In all honesty, those that went last night had a good show to watch and were very cold and wet, and those that did not go were very sensible and were warm and dry, albeit they missed four lovely Margate goals.

Those that are interested in the Kent Senior Cup went and those that are not did not.

Where's the problem? Am I a bigger fan than those who did not go? Probably not, just colder and wetter and probably not as sensible, but I have to say that I enjoyed last night immensely, more so after I got home and thawed out though.

Could we stop this silly stuff about what constitutes a true fan? We all are in our own way. Diversity amongst us gives us fuel for discussion, if we all felt the same about everything it would be very boring. There is a point to be made about our small squad and the risk of injury, but there is also an opposing view that there is honour in keeping what is ours, and we need a bit of silverware to start our collection in our new trophy cabinet at Hartsdown. I have my views on this, and I'll bet if I elaborated on what they are there would be someone to trash them. Fair enough, but because I hold one view it does not necessarily follow that I am exclusively right, or a better fan than someone else. And it would be very rude to be personally abusive to anyone for not agreeing with me

Because, at the end of the day, our future depends on being inclusive to as many fans who support Margate in as many ways as they see fit, else why have we fought so hard to go home again?

Too true, sista. So what if some people only watch us a couple of times a season? That's better than the vast majority of people in Thanet who never watch us at all. Stop the willy-waving.
