Subutteo rules.

Now , the line across the pitch between the penalty area an half way line was a shooting area. The ball, not the player must be between that line and the goal being attacked before a shot can take place.

It was also true that offside could only be applied within the same area. If you had a player in an offside position, you were entitled to an "offside tick" (yes it was called tick, not flick for some reason) to get the offending player back onside, ETSA advanced rules as were in the late 70's. It was also expected for the attacking player (real bloke, not bit of plastic on pitch) to say "shoot", before he or she shot, and the defending player would say "ready".

A bir sad, but I remember this from my days playing in the Romford Table Soccer League. The ex Urchin Glen Dyson was in the same league. We brought up a load of old stock of cardboard players as they tended to spin better. There was this guy called Laurence who played in the league. His girfriend Shelia took part as well, she had the most massive chest, which became a bit of an obstruction when you were trying to get in your "blocking" flick.

Were those in the Advanced Rules or the International Rules? I never played in a league or club but me and some mates made our own little leagues. The International rules did not require you to announce your intention to shoot. You could have an offside flick (Int'l rules didn't say tick, I'm pretty sure) for every normal flick in that spell of possession.

The figure taking the shot had to be in its opponents half, as well as the ball being over the shooting line.

Ah, happy days. Kids these days don't understand, with their game boys and play stations..........................................

They were a from of the advanced rules.

The advanced rules were produced by Subutteo themselves. The rules I played to were set by the English Table Soccer Association.

I once got to the 1/4 final of the National Youth Cup Tournament which was held at Wembley. Well when I say Wembley it was in a school hall just off Wembley High Street.
