I would like to place on record IMO Jeff Trices History website is one of the best,if not THE BEST of its kind on the internet!! If like me you have supported The Gate for many years, then by cicking on to any part of it,brings back so many memoriesand all totally factually correct.WELL DONE Jeff!! Talking about memories, there are so many things yoy could discuss on her ,the best of, the worst of, the most amusing etc, etc.I do not know if this has been done before, but I wonder if any one can remember any real good own goals scored by either Gate players or opposition players over the years? The one that I think immediately springs to mind is the one last season at Dover one Sunday afternoon, when the Halifax player somehow beat his own keeper from out on the wing LOL!! One that I remember well was on, in I believe in a Kent Senior cup tie at Hartsdown some years ago at Hartsdown.John Love was running down hill with ball and decided to pass the ball back to I believe Joe Radford in goal, unfortunately Joe decided to come out to meet him and John managed to lob the ball over him and into the net.It was quite impessive. You get the idea.Anyone remember any more??

Own goal memories yep the one against hereford united southern league cup semi final second leg i think at hartsdown. Stand in goalie and a pass back went literally straight past him. A real sickner for us we lost 3-2.

Geoff, I remember tat match well. It was on the Monday night of Easter week, 1972,Easter was early that year, like this year.Afew days later on Good Friday in the afternoon we played hosts to Chelmsford City who in those days as I am sure you can remember were one of, if not the biggest and most powerful Southern League clubs there were. They were at the time if I remember correctly top of the league,We were either 4-0,or 4-1 up before they had got off the team bus !!!. We ended up winning 4-3!! Another tremendous game!!

Thanks for the kind words Memory Man !

Just finishing off odds and ends for the 80's update, all the player profiles for the era (150+) are finally ready to go, just sorting out the season result pages, manager records, quizzes, etc now. I always forget how long all these odds & ends take but everything should be on the site in the next few days.

So memory man was at the Hereford game as well. We would have won in extra-time.

Ok who remembers Jack Smith breaking his breast bone after colliding with an opposing goalkeeper? and who remembers the Rugby Town goalkeeper praying to the ref not to give a penalty. I think we won 5-1.

As for Jeff's site, excellent stuff

Talking of memories, does anyone remember Dave O'Callaghan back in the fifties?

Seeing Ronaldo of Man U recently flick the ball putting one leg behind the other to do it reminds me that I am sure that I saw Dave O'Callaghan do that back in the fifties, and that was in the Reserves.

I tell you, Margate FC are well ahead of the rest.

I remember the Merthyr Tydfyl keeper rushing out and breaking Ken Jones jaw, in the early 70s and didnt even get cautioned as I remember!!

Just took a look at Jeffs site and have to say i am amazed. You're lucky to have the site and theres certainly nothing else remotely like if for any Kent team whose site i've looked at. Haven't seen anything for a league club that's as detailed either-even the big clubs don't have such a site. Well done Jeff!
