God this is getting really boring. After every defeat we go through the same thing. Notice they don't come on after a victory to praise the team. We are not going to win every week, we were never going to win the FA Cup, we weren't very likely to win the Trophy, but we've had a good go at all of them. Accept that this is a good season for the level we are now playing at and get over the past. Can we go for an original thread after the next game PLEASE.

Staines, Crispy I appreciate your frustration at the anons. But explain to me how if we make it registration only Optimisitc et al will be any different? Optimistic will just register as such. We still will not know who he/she is and I don't really see how that will alter their views.

Interesting how any of the posting formats we use are very much the same! Is a straight Anon unregistered any different from a "Named" Anon like Optimistic? With no indication as to where he or she is from or any other clue they could be a stirrer from anywhere.

However we do have the Chris S and Dave programmes who also sign in as Anons, but they are different because most if not all Slough supporters know exactly who they they are. We do have quite a few people who do sign in with their real names, albeit shortened, like Martin, Gary or use a nickname like BFR or Radders and again everybody knows who they are. Some go the whole hog and use their full name like Marcus Kirby (even if he does see himself in a more romantic light recently) and charliethomas (Watch him Charlie!). In the middle are some like me who use their real name plus surname initial or Chris P Lettuce who changes his name regularly, but who are known posters even if everybody may not know exactly what they look like if they saw them at a match.

So ultimately it seems that "knowing who posters are" is a bit of a hit and miss activity and it is more about what is being said and why they said it which is important. There is no doubt that some folks do like to have a bit of a wind up, and going Anon or assuming a false identity can add to the "fun". And it can be funny. On the other hand we do seriously object to people who come on to wind things up maliciously or say things which are downright objectionable and nasty which they would not dare to put their names to - these are the cowards. But as another very sensible Anon poster, Decorum said, the best way to deal with them is not to respond. No reaction p*sses them off more than anything, as they then have wasted their time.

I know, I'm rabbiting on again! But one last thought - Some Anons may be first time posters, and we don't want to have reactions so strong that people feel inhibited from voicing a view, even if it is unfashionable - as long as it adds to the debate and is not offensive or malicious .........

I agree entirely Andrew.

I also don't have any particular problem with what Optimistic is saying. I don't agree with him or her and I would prefer it if they explained themselves a little better but beyond that they are entitled to post their views on here.

I also agree with Kay it is incredibly tedious that they come on here and post the same thing after every defeat but what can you do.

The trouble is if you ignore the anons it would soon become pretty boring on here....

Come on they are a constant source of amusement; i always know that when i come home after a Slough defeat; some Wycombe fan (Usually illiterate-and having seen 1 Slough game in the last 4 years) will voice their opinion and talk about things which they know squat about... I feel its the equiv of me deciding to start posting on a Penguin farming site......

Half the problem seems to me to be that these anon's come on, make statements that will obviously cause a stir and them start complaining that they are not allowed to say what they like without people getting upset. They obviously want freedom of speech. fair enough, but they really can't complain that the regular posters are entitled to respond as they see fit. Personally I agree that ignoring people who don't have the courage to back up their statements with a name is the best approach. Occasionally some are amusing and worth a response but on the whole as I said before its getting a trifle dull.

What I don't understand is if people have a different opinion from all you lot, they are deemed to be saying wrong things, you see what we cannot get our heads around is if Slough can beat Walsall and almost beat Gravesend, why cannot they do better against non-descript teams, then we would be in a better league position, you see it's not just about( having a good cup run)a couple of games a seasons doing well its about having heart and the will to win on a regular basis. There is no defence you can offer I am afraid, because on your thinking the position in the football world of Walsall and Gravesend means we ought to be top of the league not fighting relegation. And all this waffle about no ground, and we might have fold etc etc, is just papering over the cracks.
And finally as a lady said on here recently, if she was to look many of these poster names up in the phone book, they would not be there, so anon or not anon makes not the slightest difference to honest debate.

How to contradict yourself in about six lines. It is yourself, Tara, Optimistic, and assorted other ANONYMOUS posters who believe that as we beat Walsall and did well against Gravesend then we should be top of the league as you can't understand how we beat big teams and lose to non-descript teams (basically your words not mine). The rest of us understand that in football, on their day, anyone can beat anyone else and that's the way it goes. Why is it that Chelsea can beat Lazio 4-1(?) one week and lose to Man City 1-0 the next. Because that is the beautiful unpredictability of football and why most of us enjoy it as much as we do. Wouldn't it be lovely, having beaten Walsall, if all Slough fans could turn up to every game knowing we were going to win. Well newsflash for you, in the real word of football entertainment THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN!

the thing is that games against teams like walsall and gravesend are special rare occurance, and this lifts the players to perform well as it is the big stage. this just does not happen against league teams

Why is it happening for Yeading then ? That's my whole point...

Sorry to go off topic, but to answer David's question, spoke to Roy at 5.45 and he said it was wet, but the game was going ahead.

Worthing last season, anyone?

Pessimistic/Anon/Optimistic/Tara/whoever - if your so impressed by Yeading go and support them, they are just down the road and could do with the support. Funnily enough though they appeared to raise their game for Newcastle and were unable to beat was it Leatherhead in the Bryco?

Of course your opinion is valid and your entitled to it. Equally I and many others on here are entitled to disagree. As much as I would love to see consistently excellent performances I know that that is an unrealistic expectation at this level. Enjoy the highs (Walsall and Eastleigh (a)) and get over the lows.

going by optimistic's logic, having beaten Walsall means we should be in League One, right? Like Martin said in an earlier post, these people think we should win every game 10-0 without letting the opposition get a single touch. Not going to happen I'm afraid so I suggest they really do go watch someone else

You really must learn to understand what you read,I believe what is actually meant is that we should be nearer the top of our league not division 1( how absurb)if we can beat teams of a much higher standard in the cups.

its not just us who perform better against higher league teams, look at teams like nottingham forest, they are currently near bottom in the championship, but have held spurs to a 1-1 draw away from home. you rise to the occasion against higher teams, even if you cant do so against league teams

we may be close to division one than the top of the league, but remember we do have 5 or so games in hand!!!
