I followed the game on the Slough Forum, as for certain reasons i was unable to attend todays game. It sounded as if it was a tough game, would this be the right thing to say??

Did we play well??

Anyways, a win is a win, hopefully we can continue through to the final, bring on whoever in the next round!

Up Da Fleet!

We deserved the victory. Although it was a close scoreline we had more chances and attacked more, but both of Slough's goals were pretty good, especially the first one (25-30 yarder, crossbar and in) which got a clap from the Fleet fans. I think we could've had more, but oh well, a win's a win. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Feels great to go through and I think we deserved it despite the close scoreline, we were always the better team than Slough and even at 2-1 down I felt we would go on to win. Although I must admit I had my heart in my mouth a few times in them last minutes.

Elsewhere in the trophy the teams in the quarter finals draw are:

Exeter

Gravesend

Burton Albion

Hucknall

Woking

Grays Athletic

Eastwood Town or Hereford

Canvey Island or Bishop's Stortford

Of which I'd say we have a good chance at all of them except maybe Hereford, Exeter and Grays which would be tough games.

OK Dave thanks for that, though I see we lost in the last 16 on that occasion which was a big achievment at our then level. To be in the last 16 and now to 8 now is arguably where we should be according to status but wow, look at the other teams through to the next draw!

Slough have done so well to get as far as they did. They gave a good accont of themselves and deserve credit for both. So congratulations to Slough for the teams achievments. As for the game....A deserved win for 'The Fleet'...just. Individually the 'Fleet' players were better and that showed best in the winning goal. It was class all the way. Well done Gravesend. Fingers crossed for another home draw.

Despite what Mikefleet will say, McCarthy was immense at the back today. Won every header, every tackle, didn't lose possesion, always commanding and leading by example and scored a good goal.

Also Matty looked a new player, full of running, put some good crosses in and did a lot of good defensive covering as well.

Looks like Liam has got the whole team believing again.

Unfortunately we picked up what looked like two serious injuries.

The kick Porter took on the ankle looked fairly innocuous, but given his luck with injuries and seeing him hobble off I wonder if Nathan Bunce is available.

Roy's injury looked nasty, and of course we don't have any cover for Roy....before anyone mentions Pinnock, he is cover for Manny but not for Roy.

Since we insist on thumping long high balls forward whatever height our forwards are we must have a big forward to challenge for them.

Got to agree with Chatham Gary about McCarthy today. Not been convinced on past performances, but today played probably his best game for Fleet so far,and I was really impressed, well done Paul!Must also mention Jay Saunders, who is out on his own for player of the year at the moment.Another polished performance from him today.Well done all the lads today, and let`s keep it going all the way to Villa Park! P.S. Wilko`s looking dodgy again!

I think today came down to the fact that we took our chances when they came. Jay Saunders yet again scored a vital goal that put us back in the tie.

Their first goal was an amazing strike, and Wilkerson was unlucky to push it onto the bar and in. Not a lot we could have done to stop it in my opinion. Their second goal was a good idea, and I think the wall done there best to close it down, but it somehow sneaked through, maybe Wilkerson could have done a little better, I would have to watch the goal again.

Paul Mccarthy was solid at the back, and worked well with Lee Gledhill, it was a shame to see Graham Porter injured again, let's hope he can be back in action sooner rather than later. It looked no more than a twisted ankle from where I saw it.

I didn't think it quite happened for Drury today, or Lovell attacking-wise, but Lovell's work rate was excellent and he did some good defensive work too.

Will try something new now with My Player Ratings

Wilkerson 6 - Kicking at times not great, and could have done a little better with the second goal.

Protheroe 7 - Got forward well, and some important tackles.

Mccarthy 8 - Won everything in the air, looked calm on the ball and handled everything.

Gledhill 7 - Looked comfortable, nothing special but solid.

Drury 6 - Ideas were there but they didn't come off all the time.

Lovell 7 - Didn't quite work for him going forward, some bad crosses, but some good defensive work when it was needed.

Saunders 8 - Yet another great peformance and another important goal.

Mckimm 7 - Good game from the captain, looked calm and played the ball around neatly at times.

Essandoh 7 - Looked certain to score, missed and crashed into the post, hopefully will be alrite.

Omoyinmi 7 - Took his chance well, but at times looked quiet.

Pinnock 6 - Disappointed really, I would of expected more, didn't have too much of an impact on the game when he arrived.

Didn't play enough to be rated: Porter and Sidibe
