Let's just hope this was a blip in the recent revival.

 

Although 5-1 was flattering to Basingstoke and 3-1 would probably have been a more realistic scoreline, make no mistake - we were well beaten on the day. We did have periods in the game when we took the initiative but for the most part, we were just not at the races. All in all, a very disappointing game. We were overrun in midfield, where their man Torres seemed to control everything and our defence was woeful. Hooper and Elphick were sadly missed. Clarke, as always, worked like a trojan up front but received virtually no service. Pacquette was very unimpressive and on yesterday's showing is not the answer as a strike partner for Clarke. Cornwall came on for the last half hour, injected a bit of pace and looked a far better prospect, although I am not sure if he is the answer in the long term either. As a footnote, not one of the goals conceded yesterday was down to Paul Bastock and for me, was our Man of the Match.
