Sometimes, George isn't that bad

Comments from George Borg on the game which Pat and Leon are representing the Ryma league. Nice comment on Justin.

George Borg, manager of Ryman League Premier Division club Braintree Town, has declared his disappointment at the decision by the league to appoint a manager from outside their own ranks for the forthcoming showpiece game between the league’s representative select side and the FA XI to be played at Dulwich Hamlet on Monday, March 7th.

The match is scheduled to be an official honouring of the Isthmian League's Centenary year, and as a result the consensus of opinion from senior club's within the league's framework are one of major disappointment and, in some cases anger at the decision to appoint Bognor Regis Town’s long-serving boss Jack Pearce to take charge of the Isthmian side.

The FA XI is likely to include the bulk of its players from Nationwide South clubs and that includes Pearce's own Sussex side.

Borg (pictured), one of the most successful and respected manager operating within the non-League Pyramid, said: "I consider the appointment of Jack Pearce, who incidently I have no axe to grind with and think is a decent man, is the wrong choice in what is supposed to be a celebration of Isthmian League football.

"The decision to elect from outside the league is one that does not do justice to successful managers such as Alan Devonshire at Hampton & Richmond Borough, Justin Edinburgh at Billericay Town, Gordon Bartlett at Wealdstone, along with Johnson Hyppolyte at Yeading, who conducted himself magnificently in the recent FA Cup Third Round tie against mighty Newcastle United shown live on Sky Television."

The Braintree boss concluded: "Isthmian supremo Alan Turvey does not like me as I am outspoken and tell things as they are, but if he has an issue with me it is no reason to overlook those who would have done us proud in what is supposed to be a show piece game"
