BOWERS & PITSEA V ENFIELD TOWN

Recommended Posts

The point is, if it's obviously going to be no go that early in the morning, it's helpful to know early so you can make alternative plans for the day which might not involve stewing in the pub all afternoon. Also it might not be so easy to get a local ref later in the day if they have a game themselves, or the match ref early if they have other personal commitments - they may even be performing an inspection themselves locally.

I often used to be at Sungate early on Saturday mornings because that was the only time I could get a local ref, and opposing teams liked to have an early decision so they wouldn't even have to meet, let alone leave without knowing whether the game was on. Sometimes the ref might be able to come back later if it needed time to see how the weather was going, but it's not as if you can snap your fingers and get them whenever you want.

Well its 5 degrees outside at the moment and feels warm to me compared to when we had that east wind earlier in the week!

I expect if this gets called off it will be a midweek game which I will then miss. Can't keep giving a poor pitch a chance of Saturdays without hope of getting it on! Other clubs deserve their chance of a Saturday fixture against us!

There was a few complaints early season from a certain clubs supporters when the two league matchs between their side and ours were both scheduled mid-week as usual because it meant that the largest crowd of the season would be lower than a saturday, Which club was that CWC, Zody and others?

You didn't hear me arguing about the scheduling because no club has a right to preferential treatment. If I suspected it was being done deliberately I might have complained but I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist. The only complaint I had about the November fixture being midweek was that I saw no need for midweek league fixtures at that time of the season, regardless of the opposition.

Pompous no - old fart maybe!

This is an argument you need to have with your own supporters and others who do look to the away support town brings to help their finances!

Incidentally Suffolk FA is putting on a Groundsmans course courtesy of Ipswich Town FCs top Groundsman (At Stowmarket).

Why don't ESL teams see if there are spare spaces that they might fill?

I don't like to go over old ground (much), but this leagues' scheduling sometimes makes one wonder if they have been to earth recently. I do find it strange a post that came on here round about Christmas time re the clubs being asked about playing over the New Year ie Jan 3.

Surely the clubs are at the behest of the league and they arrange fixtures. I know this sounds hypocracy on my part as I have constantly moaned about ET v Romford games being midweek, etc etc. But surely it is Bank Holiday times when clubs at our level and drag in a few more punters. And they should look at any avenue as to promote the ESL by arranging matches to enhance the attendances.

Not trying to sound like I'm lording it but other clubs should be using us and Romford to raise their profile and bring in the sponsors i.e. Look nice Mr money man this is the sort of exposure we can give you now give us your money,Please.

Am hosting a rather agreeable chardonnay at present ... not too pretentious, indeed a very friendly wine, one you can rely on not to embarrass you in front of your friends and will always find your conversation on the arts, traffic control and the frankly shocking disappearance of white dog poo extremely riveting.

Sponsors not owners,I like owning the club I support.

If you are getting 200 people to a game it must be easier to interest sponsors than 20 people.
