Sorry, but as an anonymous bod, I have to say that you guys are so full of crap it's unbelievable.

Bottom Four?

Crap. Crap. Crap.

By the end of this season you have every right to be top four.

If you don't at least try for the Play-Offs I'll feel cheated, and I speak as a fan from a team lower than you...

I know you have Cup commitments in abundance, but you have a bunch of battlers there, and if you CAN get into the play-offs I think your winners may just surprise the RPL!

(Genuinely) Good luck!

[same guy as above.]

Yes, I know you think I'm being cynical, but I am not.

Where's all this crappy despair come from?

I'm very disappointed. Mathematically, you are 5 games behind many/most teams. 5 X 3 points = 15 points. Where does 15 points leave you? IN THE PLAY-OFFS! (or all but.) If you can't realise that a)you have a great team/outfit B) a winning ethos c) a serious chance to sneak up on all those arrogant tw*ts above you d)the chance to make a name for yourselves and hasten the advent of the Ground you deserve, e)the whip hand since you are an unknown quantity and the invisible people 'below' at the moment, f)[bizarrely] for the next couple of matches your opposition will not suspect a team as low down the table as you, so they won't be worried..... g)you are the best cup team in the RPL so if it comes to Play-Offs......

Do you not see where this is going?

As a fanatic from a club 'below' you, I'd love to see you go on to better things, since WE will not do, THIS year.

Don't give up, you tossers. I cannot believe the defeatism on this site at present. You are BETTER than that!

Cheers Malx (assuming my suspicions are correct - if not then please accept my apologies). I agree with most of what you say, though in terms of what both Chris and myself said in this thread the fact remains that at 4.45 on Saturday we could drop into the relegation zone. There is no despair in that because as you point out, we have a number of games in hand and can add another one to the list on Saturday. I have little doubt that we will be comfortably mid-table at worst come the end of the season, however the more our fixtures pile up the greater the risk in my opinion. We know from experience that the Ryman league will not bend the end of season date (see the final table for the 00/01 season) so the bare fact of it is we have to squeeze in 16 league matches and a minimum of two cup games (Bryco semi) between 1st March and 30th April. Add to that up to five trophy games (replay with Gravesend if needed, QF + replay, SF 2 legs) and things start looking a bit silly. We could quite easily end up like Canvey a few years back having to play four or more matches a week at the end of the season, and under those circumstances teams understandably fail to perform. I guess my point is having the games in hand is great but they have to be played at some point and if you don't pick up the points then we could (and I stress I am only saying could) be in trouble. Your mathematics of five games in hand possibly equating 15 points is true, but it could equally mean 3 points out of 15 and thus we would be in the dogfight.

I think that the majority of contributers to this forum would agree we are having a very good season, our cup record is testament to that. I don't think it is too unreasonable though to look at 16th in the league and a solitary point above the relegation zone with two months left in the season and think that it would be nice to notch up a couple of quick victories to get us away from there.

Anyway, best of luck to you and the team for whom you are a fanatic. If as I suspect you follow a team in white with a series of forgettable treks to Stag Meadow behind you for the season then good luck for the rest of the season. I'd like to see them stay up so long as it is not at Slough's expense of course.

Take it easy
