Tamworth Game

Tamworth were the worst team I've seen this season apart from York.

No passion to their game, and it took them until the 85th minute (apart from one Pullen dropped in the 1st minute of the second half and Mckimm comfortably cleared off the line) to put an effort on goal, when Taylor, with acres of space in the box, looped a weak header straight at Pullen.

Thereafter, we had a couple of other scares at the back - an excellent save by Pullen from Whitman's cross shot, followed immediately by Lovell scrambling the follow up off the line.

Could easily have had a 3rd though, and the keeper partly made up for his earlier error with a good stop from Manny, one on one.

2 very soft goals for us today - their keeper should comfortably have held Prothers cross, but it appeared the ball was partly dislodged as he came down on top of his defender and it then came out completely as he hit the ground, leaving McCarthy a simple tap in.

The second was a decent enough build up on the right, ending with a Prothers chip to the back of the box being headed back in for Essendoh to get a simple 6 yard header into the corner.

We didnt really get out of second gear, but didnt need to - and at the moment I'll settle for that, with 3 points at the end.

Hate to be picky, Alan, but I thought McCarthy cleared the overhead kick off the line, and the later clearance off the line was by Porter.

I didn't really think we played all that well today - but then we didn't really have to, much like the 2-0 win against Tamworth at home last season. Tamworth were pretty poor - they did actually create more chances than we did in the second half, but Bob Taylor just couldn't seem to put them away. I think the fact that we didn't have to work very hard for the three points was underlined by the 20-minute spell towards the end of th first half where our play deteriorated and we showed little attacking invention, only for the opposition 'keeper to gift us the opener.

No real stand-out players for me today - a good team effort, and it's nice to see us taking maximum points off sides around us in the table. We have the opportunity to do this a few more times in the coming weeks, with games against Farnborough, York, Northwich, Canvey and the like, so let's hope we use these games to secure our Conference status for another season.

Lastly, great to see Roy break his duck at last.

Agree with you there JC. Good to get the win but still giving the ball away too often and far too many hoofs forward. I'm sure it would have been a more emphatic win had we kept the ball on the deck and played it simple. Should have run rings around their defence (although it might have taken a couple of minutes to get around their big lump at the back) and would liked to have seen Moussa on earlier to have a go at them.

Also think Roy and Jukebox should get stuck in more.

The best thing about yesterdays game was Roy scoring, hopefully this will give him a bit more confidence.

Far too many aimless long balls, not enough short passes, very few crosses.

Liam seems to like Lovell, I think I would prefer to see Jukebox on the left and Moussa on the right.

Still, on the positive side, a clean sheet, three valueable points and a good start for Liam Daish.

I thought Lovell had a very good game yesterday, and was far more effective than Moussa has been, although it is difficult to say after only having seen Lovell for one(post welling) performance. I was somewhat bemused when Drury got man of the match? He played quite well but man on the match?Hmm..

Anyway, not the greatest of games but a good result
