Margate 1 -1 Sutton (FT)

no report at 8p.m so heres a not in depth report. I leave that to others.

Sutton one of the best supported away from home brought 40 or 50 fans swelling the gate to very nearly 300. Ist half appaling from both sides except they scored. It was easily the coldest the gate hardy had experienced down the botom end this year. Most people had moved before half time.Second half with us playing into the wind and just a semblance of snow flurries saw a rejuvinated gate. It does seem to me that we have rather adopted that top end. Maybe cos its always warmer and reminds us of our beloved Coffin rnd. Attack after attack was repelled by good fortune last ditch tackles and terrific goal keeping, the man was a brute of a size but we all liked him cos he came over at the end to wish us well for the ground. Rocky was having a mare other than some useful passes but the rest got on song. Moses hit the post from 2 degrees! and then the moment of difference guess who came on for rocky. Darren did his usual scaring act o9n their very good defenders and with 11 mins to go got on the end of an Oatsy free kick perhaps generously given for a trip. The keeper almost kept this point blank header out but it crossed the line. Great finish from there both teams going for a winner. Trego smashed the ball against there forward only to see it rebound straight to him and then he was miles off his line got lobbed but the ball went wide. Clarky had a shot saved and mayhem then ranged with handbags scuffle in the middle. Well the second half certainly warmed us up but sutton fans looked stiff as ice when they filed out really having a go at the ref about some dodgy decisions , so they thought. Good second half made a good atmospere .nice to see another conf south team well supported.

Talk about a game of two halves. First probably the worst I can remember as a spectacle for a long time and it was such a bitter wind blowing I had to seek the refuge of the tea bar halfway through. Conceded from a corner yet again, lost count as to how many for the season from set pieces - more work on the training ground guys! Second half what a transformation. We battered them for 30 mins and at times played some good stuff using the wings much more Oatsey prominent on the right and PB on the left but couldnt find a finish and again Darren comes on and does his supersub cameo role. Clarke and PB were excellent and thought Alex did well today too. JK solid again in sweeper role but think we missed Smith when he went off injured - he has more pace than Barnett and more dominant in the air. Bill still trying his best and did well but his lack of pace is a real concern now - still think his best position is sweeper but JK seems to have made the role his own. Still not sure about Moses who seems to be chasing shadows for much of the game and when he does get chances misses horribly - I don't think he is better than Pullman who scored for Erith again today. Dont know what was wrong with Rocky - he seemed to have the hump with some of the other players - he was completely ignoring Clarkey who was trying to communicate with him on several occasions and just did not seem interested at all today hence CK took him off. Good atmosphere there today helped by the good travelling support from Sutton. All in all a fair result and an action packed second half which more than made up for the awful first.

Maybe in the end a point won rather then two lost.

Think in early season this is the type of game we would have gone heads down, conceded two more and never battled back;so i will not get two depressed.

Still need those 4 wins for safety though

Cheers for the kind words about our support people. We do seem to travel well.

Thought a draw was about right overall. Agree the first half was absolutely dreadful. Second half was a lot more open though, although we didn't really do ourselves any favours by giving the ball away so much.

And by christ it was cold in that 2nd half!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

The moaning at the ref was for a dead cert peno we should've had at the death. Cross came in and your 7 clearly handled. But then again, to nick it then would've been unfair on your lads.

Good luck for the rest of the season & hopefully we'll be able to add you to our list of seaside weekenders. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smilewinkgrin.gif" alt="" />

Reading the report on the Sutton website, it seems like we were a bit lucky.

I think Trego does stray too far out of his goal when against the wind.

Saw the Newport match and the same could have happened.

A couple of people commented how he looked prone to a lob-comes out to edge of penaly area and is not the tallest of guys.

Think Peter trego needs to give this one a bit of thought before we do concede to a long range effort

Ooops! Almost forgot!

Thanks again to the local journo who I ponced some notepaper off prior to KO in the main stand!!

Forgot my bloody notebook & he generously donated several sheets from his own so I could do my match report notes.

Cheers! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/top.gif" alt="" />

MM I dont think we were lucky,in fact I think on the 2nd half performance we were in control of the game more than Sutton, true they broke very quick and somtimes caught us out if it were not for JK,but overall I think we did attack them more and as for clear cut chances think we had the upper hand,on saying that a draw was a fair result.
