Millions ££££££££ ignored by TDC

Was talking to IRIS JOhnson today as she was travelling,and you know what I cant remember checking her ticket.Anyway she told me that the council had an option to apply for some cash out of some sports fund or something on those lines. ( Wish I could remember the actual name of the "sports whatever" she called it, but I cant.)She mentioned £18m in the kitty. The council had the chance to apply and then possibly get maybe a million to give to any sports venture that they felt fit. They had an option to apply in January and then a second chance at end of March/April. Obviously this would have been last year. But the council did not even TRY for that grant. She feels they just ignored it. The fact is that even if WE werent the recipients of it, it could still have been used by other sports ventures or exsisting ones. Now that is sheer waste and lack of foresight for the sporting future of Thanet I.M.O. Apparently the council knew of this aid but didnt even bother to apply.

The phrase one for me ,one for you comes to mind when referring to councils

Grant funding from Sport England, could have raised circa £345,000 for a sports related project for the area. To obtain the grant, the application would have had to have been project specific. As there were no fine details of the project (relating to the football club) there could be no application.

And we missed out on a grant before when we were first promoted to the Conference whilst the Council and Steve Ladyman fannied around with ideas. We were not allowed to apply whilst the council were studying plans then too.

Very informative. Thank you Ian, not only for that but for reminding me of the actual name of "Sport England" of which Mrs. Johnson personnally mentioned could have been applied to for for ANY sporting body, not just the football club. The fact that it was ignored completely and not even sought after was the reason for my post originally.

there was another grant they could have got somthing to do with the Coalboard when the pits closed

Forgot to mention that Mrs.Johnson also mentioned that the Dreamland site would be acquiring about 6 or 7 new rides this summer. Heard that confirmed on radio this morning. Good news for the town.
