Actually, to be honest, it looks quite a bit better than our official one. Probably be checking on this one quite a bit now, thanks a lot for the link.

Anyone else wondering who the random bloke is on the left on the banner and thinking that he couldn't look less like a Canvey fan, or am I the only one?

It's been around for quite a long time and is very similar to the official Canvey website in that it is an 'off the shelf package'. What neither site has, but the old site did, is personal comment and opinion. It is quite labour intensive for someone to sit down after every game and create several pages of statistics, reports, opinion and comment. You either find a willing amateur to do it (take a bow Matt, Merv and Ian) or you have to pay a lot of money to get a professional in to do it. Trouble is, even if the keen amateur can afford the time, personal opinion usually upsets somebody or other and, eventually, you find yourself being banned.

At least the fans of Canvey Island FC have this discussion board to exchange points of view and criticism (of the best sort, of course), even though the club doesn't like it - hence no fans forum on the official site.

Merv:

Are you are being a bit harsh, the club is small compared to some of our friends in this league and like their teams their sites are more established and better developed than ours.

I have made my thoughts known as I believe I am entitled to at the place I belive they should be voiced and that is, I have sent an email criticising the site, to those that produce it.

I have said to them it is not very good and it is not as good as we had before, but it is the official site.

That is the official site of Canvey Island Football Club.

I miss the old site as much as anyone and still pop along there occassionaly, but despite a lot of people asking the team to continue with the site at the time they decided not to.

I know the club were not happy with the site, but on the whole the fans were (me included).

At the time I was dissapointed with the decision of the team to pull the plug, I believe they should have carried on regardless of the clubs views, but then I was not facing the pressure they were.

I believe it is now time to stop having a dig at our official site and start providing genuine criticism to the producers or relaunch an un official site. Like they have at other clubs.

I have a couple of questions for those that managed the site, please answer honestly.

With hindsight, would it have been a good idea to ride out the storm and keep a low profile but keep the site going?

If the site were still going today would the relationship problems have passed by now?

A bit of forethought before the ban was put in place would not have gone amiss.

I do believe that a lot jealousy had developed and club officials were under the wrong impression that the web site crew were making money out of their toy!! The club officials were blinkered to the fact that the site had received universal acclaim(was one of the very top websites) and helped put the club in the public eye!

All sad and very uncalled for in my view.

I did type out a very long reply, but life moves on - I still look out for all the Canvey games, and am pleased when you win.

The ban was lifted earlier this season - although sadly I can't see myself returning at any time soon as a) the invite hasn't arrived wink.gif and B) I could do without the abuse I got from one or two people on my last visit crazy.gif

The old site will remain live - I still pay for the costs involved including the renewal of the domain names. You can also view the old photos by going to http://www.nonleague.co.uk/photos/showgallery.php/cat/503

I am sure you will survive the season, and can then build again for next season in the conference.

Good luck laugh.gif

Without getting into another debate. I find closure in knowing the fact that when Ray Cross informed me in the bar at Maidenhead that I was banned, he had just shot himself and the Club in the foot.

The rest as they say, is history. The ban is now lifted and I have attended a couple of home games this season.
