Jake - an update

The Caretaker

Recommended Posts

Firstly, thanks for all the phone calls, messages and best wishes etc. over the past 3 days, especially those who have spoken directly with Jake, all really appreciated by the whole family .

Jake is well on the mend and in the surgeons own words is making an amazing recovery. He is at a stage that they would normally expect after a few weeks even months so after only 4 days they are staggered. He is up and about, has showered himself and has even asked on of the nurses if she fancies a drink with some one that has 40 metal staples in their head .... typical footballer I'd say ... in all seriousness the fact that he is a fit young man ultimately saved his life.

We were told to expect the worst as we drove to be with him and following surgery were told that the chances of survival with the nature of his injury was only 1 in 5 !!!!!!! So to be where we are today is truely remarkable and I am sure that he has drawn a lot of his strength from those around who have been thinking of him ... so thanks once again to you all.

Still a few problems to get over but he is getting stronger each day and we are hopeful that he will be allowed out around the middle of next week if all continues in the same way.

If this is the case I will be around to see you all on Saturday and pass on our thanks in person over a drink or two.

The news gets better .... I have just heard that if all goes well with the removal of the staples today Jake will be allowed home tomorrow. He has also been told that there will be no weakness from the surgery and it appears there will be no lasting damge from the injury so he can resume playing football when fully fit. This will still take a fair time but those two peices of news have lifted all our spirits.

HKS..... as for the f****d hair he was just as upset about the fact that they surgically removed his Deisel Tracksuit before the operation, which piece would you like to try on now sir ......and as for the scar / hard bit I'll try to attach a picture to this....not for the faint hearted ....

Anyway thanks again to everyone for your support and if he feels up to it and we are back in time we could get a little exercise with a visit to the park .... I will let you all know .... thanks again !!

Good news indeed, CT. Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree etc.

Make sure he brings the staples home with him. I'm thinking of a little commercial scheme. Perhaps an auction. Or a raffle.

The news about the football is very good. It reminds me of an old joke. A chap is rushed to hospital after a car crash. Major operation to sew severed arm back on. He wakes up in the ward 24 hours later. Surgeon arrives. "The operation was entirely succesful" says he. "Great" says the chap, "will I be able to play the piano?". The surgeon replies "Of course, I told you it was a successful operation". "That's fantastic", says the chap, "because I've never been able to do so before".
