For all of you with mobile phones, here's a little text sending exercise.

 

1. Have you sent your support for the London Olympic Bid. If not text LONDON TO 82012.

 

2. My business local 'The Hartley' on Tower Bridge Road, Bermondsey, SE1 is one of the finalists in the Evening Standard Pub of the Year competition. It's well worth a visit if you're ever in the area and you can vote for it by texting ES05 to 86025 as a favour to me.

 

The words 'drown' and 'sorrow' seem appropriate at the moment.

Unless you envoke the Parliament act...that is hardly democratic but the odd government have used it when they cannot get their own way..

I was around and we had a TV for the 48 Olympics and you can't imaging how uplifing something like this can be for a nation's morale.

All Level 5ers need this at the moment.

How about this Brunob!

Out of x number of people with mobile phones in the UK x% voted for bringing the Olympics to London.

Only problem is how many of the y% balance of the mobile owners who didn't vote are against the bid, how many are just apathetic and how many don't even know they can vote this way?

Bit mean to regard those that chose not to vote as apathetic.

 

I would regard myself as cynical in that I don't really see that it would make a lot of difference now anyway, the money is being spent on the bid whatever the public feeling is and I can't see the result being a major factor in whether it is successful. it's only another way to raise funds, so maybe those who were against it but didn't vote, did so because they felt that the money raised by their 'no' vote would just be subsidising the campaign anyway ...

 

and for the record, I am in favour of it because for all the moaning and sniping that would inevitably go on right up until the day they began, once it happened it might actually unite the nation and given us a bit of justifiable pride, rather than the false pride that comes from assuming that just because we're Britain it automatically makes us the best at everything and all should bow down before us (a feeling with which ETFC fans will surely be familiar).
