You see, people criticise secretaries for failing to spot this sort of thing and probably rightly so in most cases, but you have to worry about the short term memories of some players don't you? Did he really not remember playing in the competition for another club this season? Or if so did he think no-one would notice/care?

 

How long has he been at Romford for? If it was a Friday night signing he might not have known what competition it was and be somewhat excused but if not, well you have to wonder sometimes...

We can whinge all night long but it doesn't change a thing. Most players at this level haven't a clue as to the opposition, let alone which cup they are playing in (unless a final). Must admit always thought this cup-tied thing a bit odd, you can play in different league sides in the same league during the season, but not in a cup, why? Is it just because it has always been that way?

And 99% of the time, Club Secretaries are on a hiding to nothing, as mostly they have played players out of all innocence. The boy Foley was hardly Steve Portway now.

I will reply to your post on the other site here, to save swapping about. Just spoke to CE and he did say he was away at the time. So many clubs at our level fall foul of this outdated system. Why not bring in a rule where when a player leaves a club, the secretary of his last club prints out a list of the games and competitions he has played in, and he is responsible for the list all season. I know there would be pitfalls, but it would help prevent at least 90% of these problems.

I think it's a great shame that this has happened because I for one was looking forward to what could have been a cracking game and no doubt we would have had a bumper crowd.

 

I for one believe we should not crow about this and just enjoy the day off. No doubt I will go and find another game to watch.
