Romford chucked out of Cup?

Got to be fair rules are rules and nothing done was either done with intent or mischief. Ce la vie these things happen and reidy cannot even blame Jim Chandler as this was picked up by the league. Well as much as I am not a lover of ETFC, we will never know what might have been at Brimsdowns ground. Oh well Lakeside looms tomorrow.

Cannot even bring myself to wish ETFC the best!!!!

oh, and on the subject of arcane rules in the Thames-side, when we were re-instated in the competition a few years ago and went on to reach the semis for the first time, it was because Alan Weatherall unwittingly let slip in the boardroom at half-time that Paul Salmon was making his debut that evening. Being a Second Round tie, he had to have PLAYED for Ford at least seven days previously, not just been registered. A reserve match would have been good enough but a quick bit of homework revealed that Ford's reserves hadn't played for about six weeks. So, it was worth pitching a tenner at an appeal and wahey, Ford stalled on their defence as long as possible (saying they hadn't received the letter etc) before finally being chucked out. Bit embarrassing for the holders, really.

The following season the Thames-side revised the rules to match the standard seven days registered in all rounds.

The Essex Senior Cup now requires fourteen days and then 28 for the later rounds!

Baldy, again I pick up a slight resentment and negative vibe. You sort of blame Callum. The chairman done the right thing and must be respected.

Put the episode behind us.

Do you Baldy have an axe to grind?

Bitterness is creeping into your forum responses..........................

It obviously didn't occur to Callum any more than it did to anyone else that he might be cup-tied, having come from another team who had played in the competition. When I was secretary Reedy was always on the phone to me if he wasn't sure about a player's eligibility and I know he's been the same with Colin this season, so it's just a case of one slipping through the net because nobody spotted it. The most likely reason would be because the transfer didn't go through the usual channels to save time with the Christmas post, and by the time six weeks had passed Callum was just another squad member. Let's face it, we don't often have a problem with players being cup-tied at any stage of the season!

I spoke to Callums Father yesterday at the reserve fixture and he informed me that Callum was absolutely devastated to the extent that he considered not training thursday. From what his Father told me the response was a players meeting and the lads were dissapointed but very supportive of Callum who feels he let everyone down. NOT his fault Baldy. Let's move on.

Great to hear from the chairmen who was present thursday, that the players were not pointing fingers and want to move on. Also if not already public, the players have have acquired a medical machine, a fridge freezer, and equipment to aid the the recovery of injured players. Paul 'magic'Martin the reserve assistant manager, has supplied a TV and sound system in the players changing room and painted the physio's office.

Commitment and loyalty???????????? What do you think. Personally I think it is good to hear.

Positive news.

you're sort-of-saying I'm blaming him? What I was saying was that it was no more his fault than it might have been a number of other people's. He was obviously keen to get the transfer completed, well done to him for doing it himself, as it turned out it may have contributed to the problem without anybody realising. I'm not saying it was his fault, but that there were unusual circumstances which may have taken people's collective eye off the ball.

Of course we could all say it was nobody's fault at all, then start clamouring to be re-instated in the competition? Surprised nobody's stated blaming the league for not telling us before the game. Or we could accept it and rather than finding a scapegoat and hanging them out to dry, make sure that whatever the problem actually was, we identify it and make sure it doesn't happen in future?

People will be asking me to take my old job back soon.

....then you could have told me and I would have sprinted TWO yards to the bench to tell them not to put him on!

On a serious note though, the incident has happened and perhaps we can learn from this.

Previous suggestions about players carrying cards and IT databases may it bit too much to expect, but how about whenever a player signs on, those dealing with the transfer should contact the player's previous Secretary (or all of them in certain cases) and, with the player being present, find out there and then which cup competitions he has played in that season, and what cards he has accrued.

I am probably teaching granny to suck eggs here, but if it is made mandatory, then hopefully this situation may not arise again.

I haven't got a granny, but I often wondered if she used to suck eggs...stop tittering at the back.
