Mine is Martha & The Muffins! Echo Beach - what a tune!!

If you read The Wigan Casino story you'd know that the label was never important.

 

However Martha & The Muffins know how to bang out a tune!

I meant (obviously) Martha and the Vandella's but when I said Martha and The Muffins I didn't even realise there was a band called that, I thought I just plucked it out the air.

 

And now of course I've remembered there was one!

Still, Echo Beach is a great song and The Vandellas did some quality Northern Soul .... probably on stax y'know <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I think Martha Reeves and the Vandellas were on Motown, but wouldn't swear to it.

 

Dancing In The Street is the only one of hers I can think of.

Stax were home to the likes of Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, the Staple Singers, Wilson Pickett, Luther Ingram, Albert King, the Bar-Kays, Booker T. & the MG's, Johnnie Taylor, Rufus and Carla Thomas
