approaching players

As far as i'm aware.A ESL Club must officially inform another ESL club if they wish to speak to one of their players.I presume a copy of that request goes to the league chairman too.7 days must then expire, before the club that made the official request, can talk to the player.

Thats how i understood it,anyway.

Point of order ! 7 day approach yes but copy to League Chairman - No ! Confusion no doubt arisen by the fact that the person to contact in the league for all this is the Registration Officer who just happens to be the Vice-Chairman . If he is on holiday then all matters would be referred to me. We have repeatedly told clubs that queries should always be referred to the Registration Officer, then mistakes, hopefully, will not occur.

I reciently had a conversation with an esl manager who said that the 7 day rule did not apply in the league thats all.

Point him in the direction of the FA Handbook then! All clubs should have a copy (as far as I am aware).

The regulations concerning approaches are in the FA Rules Section C paragraph 2(a). You have to give seven days notice if you want to approach a non-contract player from a club playing in a similar club to yours -- e.g. a Saturday club doesn't have to give notice to a Sunday club or vice versa as far as I am aware.

Also, if a player wants to play for your club and is a non-contract player with another club, your club has to give seven days notice even though it is the player who made the first move.

League rules may be more stringent than this but they can't remove these requirements.
