Boss targets back-to-back wins (11.02,05)

DESPITE producing two strong performances Maidenhead United garnered just one point from six this week.

However, manager Dennis Greene remains confident and is hoping to put his campaign back on track with back-to-back wins over the next few games.

He said: “The lads have got better and better every game. Every game we go into I feel we're not going to lose. And as the matches go on we're getting more and more dominant.

“The last seven game have been against teams in midtable or above, and we've only lost once.

“Now we have to beat the bottom teams.

“We’ve got some good games coming up, and if we can get back-to-back wins, we’ll be out of the bottom three and probably won't be back.”

Victory in tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) six-pointer against relegation rivals Carshalton Athletic at York Road could provide the ideal launch platform for a strong surge up the table.

Commenting on his side’s chances in the game, Greene said: “Realistically it's a must win game. It's a massive one for us.

“I've seen Carshalton play a couple of times. They're young and can pass the ball well.

“But I think we're in with a good chance.”

United make the long trip to Kent in midweek to play their rearranged game against Margate, whose form has picked up in recent weeks after a long barren spell.

Greene said: “They have won their last three games. Don't ask me why.”

However, his mood remains buoyant, as he added: “I think realistically we can go on and win the next three games.

“But if we lose them we're in trouble.

“It's a massive week for us.”

Unfortunately, he may be without central defender Andy Dugdale, who aggravated a long standing groin injury on Tuesday night.

Goalkeeper Ademole Bankole’s on-off-on move to Brentford as player/coach finally went ahead last week, after the Bees came in with an improved offer late on Thursday afternoon.

The move unsettled Magpies manager Dennis Greene, who said: “I had resigned myself to him going on Tuesday, then on Wednesday night he told me wasn’t going to go.

“Initially Brentford offered him a three and a half month contract. Then they (Brentford) came back with a one and a half year contract, and by Thursday night he was going again.”

Bankole went straight into the first team and kept a clean sheet on his debut against Milton Keynes Dons.

In return Brentford have promised to send their first team for a friendly at York Road in the summer, and have loaned United Josh Lennie.

The 18-year-old stopper is a third-year scholar at Griffin Park, who has seen first team action in the LDV Trophy and earlier this season spent a spell on loan at Carshalton.

Unfortunately, in his first week at the club, Lennie sparked a goalkeeping crisis, when he was recalled to Griffin Park at 11am on Tuesday morning to cover for Bankole, who is cup tied for the Bees’ forthcoming FA Cup fixture.

Greene hastily arranged a two-game loan of Reading’s Australian under 20 International Adam Federici.

Lennie should return next week, and is likely to stay with the Magpies until the end of the season.

Lewis Cook has signed for Maidenhead on Monday night.

Cook started his career at Wycombe and broke through to the first team, where he made a handful of appearances.

Released at the end of last season, he then moved to Windsor & Eton, when he was a permanent fixture on the wing.

Also moving to York Road this week is young winger Oliver Oatley, also from Windsor & Eton.

Greene said: “He wants to get involved with the team, but he’s more for the future than the moment.”

Oatley and Cook are joined at York Road by fellow Royalist, goalkeeper Mario Celloni.
