Sunny day, and a gale. The sea was crashing in onto the pebbles - easy to understand why Bognor are called the Rocks - no sign of any sand.

 

Urchins start well, Shipp gives Douglas a chance, but the keeper saves well.

 

No Locke, no Gooding, no Tomlinson, defence looks very weak, easpecially on the left, and it was not real surprise when a cross from the left found RUssell who headed home, then scored again soon after.

 

Urchins came back well, Bowes could have done better but was slow to get his shot in,a nd Douglas was dispossessed just as he was about to shoot (a goal looked certain had he connected).

 

Full marks to Deaborough - three great saves inside ten seconds, one a punch out a la Abbi.

 

Massive appeal for hands, referee allows play to continue, but the linesman signals a penalty. Shipp put the ball wide. Of only it had been a free kick on the edge of the area instead.

 

One more chance for Urchins and then it's half time.

 

Second half, they lose their way a bit, with Shipp and Douglas getting little service up front. A 19 minutes version of red and white army at least offers a good deal of encouragement, which is redaily acknowledged by TC and his assistant (sorry, forgotten his name). Dear comes into the match more, and Sam Williams begins to grow in confidence at right back. Jamie Southon tries hard, twice making ground on the left.Chris Stowe comes on and what a difference, but two mins later some slack marking lets in NIghtingale for the third.

 

Makitu comes on and Urchins look a lot more confident at the back. Hill moves up, a bit more up front, and then, eight mins to go, and Stowe does it again, a neat shot on the turn, and the earlier missed penalty comes back to haunt them.

 

Good displays from Southon and Stowe - why did he not start the match ? - and newcomer Dave Morgan looked good at left back with some good tackles.

 

Pitch was very bumpy, the wind was gale force, and Bognor overcome the conditions far better.

 

Three coaches were there - that's two more than normal.

 

Temperature 11 degrees at the start, dropping to five when the rain came.

 

Excellent electric score board. Nice ground.

No - went by Renault-mobile - it's the dirty grey one without the Urchins sticker in it - it did have an Urchins sticker, but it fell out and I have not been able to get another one.

 

And, whilst I think of it, Matt Glynn is number 82 to appear in the squad this season, and Dave Morgan is number 83.

No and yes - the total of players in the first team squad, including all non playing substitutes, is 83.

 

I include non playing subs as they are still in the squad (ie in the fifteen players listed on the official team sheet).

 

There were some who have been in the squad but who did not come on - these include for example Jake Whincup and James Pullen, Ken Otalor, and of course Mark Burgess who has been "NPS" for the last four matches.
