"Sometimes looked to be out of his depth but did put in a number of solid performances. None too clever on the ground but is very strong in the air and tackles well. No doubting his committment though and this is probably why BFG is willing to stick with him."

And players with brilliant playing careers seldom make top managers. Sometimes run of the mill players make excellent coaches/managers. One of the poorest defenders to have ever played for the Fleet, Roy Hodgson, went on to become one of the best coaches in Europe. Good luck to Liam. He needs our support,

Not very impressive is it. Who's his sidekick going to be. From the Havant Web Site

"The 2003/04 season started with a high degree of optimism, and while initial league results were encouraging the side rapidly began to lose their way again. Whereas the previous season had offered hope in the excellent cup runs, early exits from the Trophy and the FA Cup at the hands of junior sides left the Hawks going into winter in freefall. Enthusiasm and passion in the players vanished, and eventually the management partnership of Mick Jenkins and Liam Daish, in the role together since May 2000, came to an end when both were dismissed in January 2004".

But that ignores the prevous seasons doesn't it. His full record with H&W is.

1999/2000 – became player-manager and avoided relegation

2000/2001 – 6th in league, First Round FA Cup

2001/2002 – 3rd in league

2002/2003 – 6th in league, First Round FA Cup, FA Trophy semi final

2003/2004 – departed with club in 10th

Not too shabby is it.

True to form David comes out with the voice of reason and logic.

Do any other club's fans argue amongst themselves quite as much as we do...? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/argue.gif" alt="" />

Problem with the new manager is that it's going to take him time, which we haven't got, to get to know the players, and a system which is suited to them. Does he know any of the players, or seen any of them play? Has he watched us since Andy left? Also bit puzzled about his connections after being at Havant and Welling. Was hoping for someone familiar with the players, and the Conference like Kinnear. Don't feel it's a good day for the club, but hope I'm wrong

We had one of those but let him go.

Bet Andy is kicking himself for his rash decision..

Nottingham Forest got relegated in Brian Clough's final season as boss there, but no-one calls him a bad manager, do they? It's not all about your final season and the reason why you are dismissed.

I bet if we'd apponted Steve Claridge, everyone would be enthusiastic purely cos he's more famous when in fact he has a similar managerial track record to Liam Daish... in fact, probably a lesser one.

It's all about perception, and sadly a lot of people can't see beyond someone's 'image' or 'name'.

My God! There`s been some venom spat out on this forum about the new managerial appointment.Fans, players and staff at the Fleet read this forum, and if we want to undermine all the good work put in by everyone over the past few years, let`s keep knocking the chairman and board over their choice of manager.None of us really know how Liam Daish will perform,it`s all pure conjecture,so let`s get behind him and the players until results prove otherwise.Welcome Liam, and good luck to you in your new career!
