A good performance with goals arriving like buses, nothing for two hours and then two together.

Lee Smith's goal a far post header from a Rudi Hall free kick with two other players waiting with him for the delivery and Byfield's goal, straight from the restart they played it back to the keeper and Byfield charged down his clearence with the ball bouncing off him into the empty net.

Byfield received his second yellow for removing his shirt in celebration.

Well done town.

I bet heading the far post hurt! Maurice is starting to look a good goal poacher too! Shame he had to remove his shirt though!

We deserved that win against a side two leagues higher. It was tight but we created more chances. 3 good uns in normal time plus a clear penalty not given. It's funny coz just as the free kick came in for our first I said to Asa, Smithy is going to score here! Chopper played a blinder too. There was one shot I just don't know how he saved.

Well done lads, a good result.

What a pity that two of those fell to Steve Baldwin. His poor finishing cost him the TOTE man of the match award. He gained a mark for getting into the attcking positions but lost two for failing to finish.

Seriously, though, it was a close run thing between him and Adam Gant with Adam just getting the nod.

Three reasons why Town had a record low attendance (ie.. Crowd cut by a third)

1.Hampton insisted on playing the game at the same time as an England match (beause of their fixture congestion)

2.Most fans had forked out on two games in two days,a few days previous to the tie.

3.It was a minor cup game.

And just for the record Abbeynut.Towns three highest attendences this season at home, have been against AFC Sudbury (391) Diss Town (328) and Thame Utd (317) .ALL cup games where season tickets are not included.

So put that in your and smoke it.

PS. What would Abbeys crowd be if it was cut by a third.??

There are many teams around who would be thinking of 79 as a record high, never mind a record low.

It's really a shame that more people could not get to the match as they missed a cracker. Open play. Attacking and defending from both sides who wanted to impress. No mass brawls! A referee who is probably the best we have had all season. A very well organised Town team who competed for 120 minutes. Says something for our fitness guru!

If I was a betting man I would have put my shirt on Maurice scoring. He did and then removed it and got a yellow followed by a red. Never mind. Here's looking to the semi final.
