Was studying, hence why it wasn't updated earlier this evening. Had the dour game on in the background (just finished) but can't say I'm too bothered about England matches, especially friendlies.

was awful!! typical of any england friendly. downing and johnson should have been played in their proper positions!

owen doesnt function well as a lone striker, johnson is more suited to that role as that is the formation they use at palace, not at real madrid! he needs someone there to back him up, to hold the ball and to knock it on for him

agreed owen looked out of place but didn't think beckham was that bad, set up wright-phillips a few times and apparently villa park was v windy hence all the wayward free-kicks/corners...

he had a couple of decent crosses, but with his corners he went from the normal never-beats-the-first-defender type corners to miles-over-everyone type! one extreme to the other!

wright phillips was trying too hard to impress, messed up some reasonably simple shots.

Agree about Owen, but definately disagree about Beckham, his best game for England in quite some time. The only players to come out with any real credit were the back four (except Cole who once again was useless), Beckham and Gerrard. Downing did alright when he came on but Johnson was played out of position and I felt very sorry for the lad.

i thought he did quite well, he came up against some tough opponents!
