Have to be awfully pedantic here, jc, but '-ize' is an Americanisation and all true English spelling should be '-ise'. At least that's what they told me at journo college and I've stuck to it ever since!

The Modern Humanities Research Association Style Guide suggests otherwise, Stu - it says '-ize' is the British way of doing things. That's what I'm told to abide by, anyway.

 

I suppose it's hard to say which spelling guide is the ultimate authority on the subject.
