GarySTFC
Website updated - News Item Link Looks like he'll be playing on Sunday at least. Let's make sure in no uncertain terms he knows full well at the end of that game we want him to stay here.
Guest
Who is doing the 'don't go Alex banner then'?
Tom
For those of those with access to an office printer may want to consider using this to produce a HUGE banner. http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ Would also need some way of sticking the paper together too. GarySTFC
I would have thought if he was going to move, he should go to Conference National or above. I don't see the benefit for him, other than that of pure finance, of him entering into a 2.5 year contract with any other team at this level. Can't think it would help his long term career. Whatever he decides, and hopefully that will be the decision to stay with us, I'll not be giving him any stick in the future should he be lining up against us. Woody SUFC
Gary most players at this level are in it for the money. Although i'm suspirsed he's not got an offer from a conference South side eastleigh do have a chance of going up plus a clear future compared to sloughs
Guest
Quote: Gary most players at this level are in it for the money I'm not sure I agree with that. You only have to look at the number of players who follow a manager around to demonstrate it's as much about who they're playing for or with. And just to prove it, on Sunday it's Steve Daly's 6th anniversary with Slough. What a fantastic servant he's been and as much as we should give huge support to Alex, we should recognise the skipper's contribution too. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon14.gif" alt="" />
Guest
I'm with Gary on this one. Alex is good enough to play Conf national or higher, so I personally see little point in being tied down to a 2-year deal at Eastleigh when Eddie has openly said here that he wants to help the players here get back in the league and will not stand in their way. GarySTFC
Quote: Gary most players at this level are in it for the money. I think a lot of the Windsor players are a perfect example of that. As Ian has said, we've now got a number of players who are here to play for STFC because they like the atmosphere at the club generated by the clubs management and supporters. Quote: Although i'm suspirsed he's not got an offer from a conference South side eastleigh do have a chance of going up plus a clear future compared to sloughs Wouldn't necessarily agree there either. They're being bankrolled above their means at the moment and that could disappear at any moment.
Martin
In addition they have no better chance than say 10-12 other clubs of going up this year (if you just ignore ground regs for the moment) so it is hardly as if he will be going anywhere to be guaranteed higher level football next season. You have to assume that he is looking to get back into league football so the decision purely has to be down to where he thinks he will get his best chance. Presumably for players who want to make it money is less of a crucial factor - otherwise he could have signed a contract for us.
Guest
Good Point about it being Daley's anniversary. Best way to get Alex to stay? Show him how much respect we have for great club servants. Sing the skipper's name loud and proud. Steve will always be welcome at Slough long after he has retired. He will always find someone willing to buy him a pint. I know it sounds corny but to have the enduring respect of so many is hugely valuable. I don't begrudge any player wanting to better themselves even if it is financial but they should look around and see what they would rather have in 20 years time, a bit of extra cash or a lot of respect. GarySTFC
Definitely. I think Daly, for the loyalty he's shown in what is essentially a very mercenary environment, has been second to none.
Martin
Daly is a lege and has showed great loyalty to the club through thick and thin AND despite being shipped off on loan inexplicably by the lunatic Browne.
brighton_rebel
I know Chris Silski was getting all depressed yesterday with possible Haddow move and no sign of a ground for the Rebels, but we still have lots of support home and away and players like playing in front of crowds, so Slough will always be a team players want to come too. If players were all mercenary at this level, how comes Yeading pays its players just £50 a week?
Woody SUFC
Wasn't that £50 a week claim proved to be rubbish?
