Nope. I'm saying that "took one hell of a beating" is quite an overstatement considering that you did deserve the victory but the margin of victory against essentially a squad side was about right. (A bit of a worrying performance with a view to your ESL chances, particularly with the news today that Chris Stevens has left Ilford and joined Burnham Ramblers to replace the injured Steve Portway).

When you reach Christmas and are still in five cup competitions and still chasing the league title, as we were, you have to prioritise the cup competitions so as not to damage your chances in the bread and butter championship chase. The side we selected last night represents the level of priority we gave to this particular competition. Had we won, an even less experienced side would have taken the field against Hampton next Thursday. There will be a minimum of nine changes to the side on Saturday (not that we ever win at Harefield anyway!).

In August, our first team beat your squad side comprehensively 5-2. Last night, your first team just about beat our squad side 1-0. Not quite the same, is it?

PS - Not necessarily having a go at you, Compo, as I suspect the original comment was a little bit tongue-in-cheek. Just clarifying things for those who may not understand.

Portway apparently broke his leg on Saturday. Chris Stevens has banged the goals in for years at Ilford (despite a couple of spells away). Once scored 8 in a game away to Woodford Town and is currently in the top five goalscorers in Ryman 2.

 

Burnham must think he's good enough as they've given him £2k up front and put him on £350 per week and a £50 goal bonus!
