Without doubt we had a poor gamr today. Due to player availability we fielded a defensive line up that was never going to score more than 1 or 2 goals at the best our hope being to keep them out & we looked pretty sound, if unthreatening, before the 1st went in. The 2nd was the killer blow & before we had chance to make a comeback in the 2nd half the 3rd wenr in. You could visibly see the heads drop. Players were not moving to passes, the marking slackened & what little confidence we had soon evaporated. Some players had poor games out there & we know who they were & some have been critisized. Roy always seems to bear the brunt of this but the poor service to him & lack of other player understanding to his strengths ment he was often on his own or going wide to fimnd space. He is not the greatest player in the world but dangerous if usedproperly. The wide players were unafective both looking short of match fitness & Macca 1 was obviously not 100% even before the injury. I know we can`t rush in & appoint any old manager but one thngs for certain if the situation is not resolved soon we are going to be very adjacent to the drop zone by March. Today Dagenham were understrength & quite honestly made to look above average by the Fleet. If we can`t take points from these teams we are very soon gonna be up [censored] creek !

OK, so he plays in a lower league but you can't say that Tostao cannot produce a final product as he has scored 12 goals for Dartford so far this season. Wouldn't we love to have a player who had already scored so many?

Essendoh: poor. Pinnock: poor. Surey: poor. It is a complete mess. I've never seen a Fleet performance where the players looked as disinterested as they did today. Dagenham showed us a masterclass in finishing, just like Aldershot last Saturday. However, had Jacko scored at 1-0 down, the story may have been different...not that that's an excuse in any way.

We do indeed need a new manager sharpish, I shudder to think how many we'll get caned by away at Carlisle in two weeks without one...

It was awful all over the pitch. Two central defenders that left far too much space between them for at least two of the goals to be created.

Essendoh - wtf was the so-called target man doing playing on the left wing most of the match? Who was going to get on the end of his crosses? Except most of the time he lost the ball anyway!

Why was Moussa ignored by his colleagues time after time during the second half when in lots of space? The only period when we looked dangerous was when Moussa had the ball!

I'm not annoyed about today's result - I'm ashamed.

However, I do believe that today WILL prove to be the turning point in our season. Keep the faith.

The sum of Andy Fords teams invariably were greater than there individual parts. We are now left with the individual parts and we quickly need someone to work out how to put them together again.

There seems to be a massive vacuum in leadership off the field at this club, and this needs to be resolved quickly.

Exactly right. There are a few players in our squad that I'd describe as Conference standard, but by the same token there are many more whom you wouldn't be too sure of. What was particularly frustrating yesterday, though, was that, even taking into account the fact that we had no manager, the effort the players put in yesterday was of a poor standard. And for the first time this season, I'm really struggling to pick a man of the match for us.

Like Aldershot, Dagenham didn't have to create that many chances to pick up their goals - in fact, they were even more clinical than the Shots were. I counted just six reasonable chances/efforts on goal, and of course five of them went in - the only one missing being Boot's hat-trick chance late on. All the goals were well-taken - Moore's a little reminiscent of Dixon's third, and the second and fourth goals just plain spectacular. Undoubtedly, Jacko's miss just before their second was costly, but even when Pinno hit the post late on and we had a bit of pressure, I just couldn't see us scoring.

Incidentally, a quick check on confguide reveals that yesterday was our biggest ever Conference/Alliance Premier League defeat, jointly with a 5-0 defeat at Scarborough in 1981/82. It's certainly the biggest competitive defeat I can remember in over 10 years of watching the Fleet (fortunately, I wasn't old enough to go to away games when we got tonked by Trowbridge).

So now the club are in the tricky position of both needing to sort out the managership quickly to prevent any more performances like yesterday's, and also being mindful of not rushing into such an important decision as choosing a replacement for a Fleet legend such as Andy.

Sorry thius is an epic! but it may provoke a few replies.....

Still not sure who is the better keeper.... BUT I think you would find that most keepers would have been caught out by the first two goals, the first was a defensive [****!!****]-up by our two central defenders getting too close to each other and colliding (sort of scuppers your argument about too much space between 'em FF!) The second was a beauty as were the rest.... unfortunately.

Is Roy trying just a litle too hard? He keeps going out wide to look for the ball when we are crying out for a good old fashioned centre forward to BE IN THE BOX! He looks desperately lacking in confidence.

I was a fan of Pinnos but he was garbage today. When we were looking for an incisive ball into the box he constantly insisted on dragging it back and breaking up the move. He needs to learn to adapt or move on.

Surey, a favourite of mine, was woefully short in his passing.... but at least he was trying things, and he was playing out of position for the better part of the game.

Moussa wasn't being ignored, but his control was pants, by the time he had sorted himself out, the Daggers defence had him covered. Tostao has scored 17 (not 12) this season in an awful team, is Moussa any better than him?

Jacko, huffed and puffed and got on the end of our only real chance in the first half, he is a steadying influence in the team, however his confidence isn't being helped when his runs just aren't being spotted, Pinnos drag back into the path of a defender when Jacko was in space halfway through the second half being an example.

Skins? Dont get me started on Skins!! It says a lot when he is our best full back and he is constantly out of position, it could be argued that he is covering for our central defenders, but I'm getting to the opinion its more like they are watching their left side all the time and are being pulled across. I've had an issue with Skins contribution to the team for some time now but I am willing to accept I'm wrong if someone can put up a valid argument as to why he is so often too far upfield. Anyone like to start a debate on this?

Prothers? had a poor game today but I prefer him to Gledhill at the moment, at least he was trying out there.

I thought Saunders was our best player today but he does suffer from a lack of vision, some of his passing is awful! If he was playing tighter to Surey would he be better advised to just lay the ball off to him?

Steve Mackka, a true captain! blindingly obvious he isn't fit but I'm never going to criticise our most commited player, I just wish he could stay fit!

This brings us to the two Central Defenders. This is only my opinion, but I thought that this is our best pairing. Both looked assured at the back and comfortable playing alongside each other. Yes Paul Mackka lacks pace, but his reading of the game, like Porter's makes up for it. Porter looked real quality today but tired badly towards the end. Ok they made a horrendous [****!!****]-up for the first, and we ended up leaking five goals, but I actually thought they did ok out there.

So it looks bad out there at the moment? Well nothing a fit Drury and Manny, a new manager and a huge slice of luck wouldn't put right! If we get some confidence back in the squad we will be alright and have a platform to build on....... Keep the faith!

Hopefully it'll include you Bill!

The team was disappointing today but the reaction from some of our so called supporters was a disgrace. Slagging off fellow supporters and threatening children, well done. The shame is that these same people will be down the tunnel on Saturday sniffing around the same players they spent 90 minutes abusing and going far further than commenting on the way they were playing. You know who you are and you should be ashamed of yourself.

New manager before Saturday please and get rid of the half a dozen in the squad who aren't good enough.

Agree with most comments actually!! We dont have enough in depth in the squad and there are 1or2 that are seriously lacking in class in the team!!!

We were unlucky had jacko scored who knows - confidence breeds success.

On the plus side - we won 4-0 today and knocked AEI out of the cup!!

Brian is quoted in today's Kent on Sunday as saying that an appointment before the Histon game is unlikely, unless there is an obviously outstanding candidate.

Still, he might have revised his opinion on this after seeing yesterday's performance... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Hi Andy C here, no need to name and shame Jimmy. As someone has sought to bring up this subject I'll own up. Here's my recollection of the very brief incident.

It was me who spoke to the 'child', probably aged 14-16 years, and I didn't threaten him I was simply responding to his attempt to wind me up he having 'butted into' a discussion I was having with Jessica!

During the second half I, together with my friends moved position to stand behind the goal. I was stood behind Jessica, Chris P., and others. As the game wore on and things went from bad to worse there were some things shouted from the terrace behind me which were not very kind and Jessica took exception to. I, politely, or so I thought, commented to Jessica that while it wasn't nice what they were saying we had to accept that some people's reaction to the situation is different to others and may not always be how others would react. Jessica made her point of view known to me as well. The conversation continued, at this point the 'child' in question decided to get himself involved. Certain other comments were exchanged with some members of the group standing with Jessica and it was all over in a matter of say two minutes. At which point the said 'child' moved away. At the end of the game, as I was leaving the ground I passed the 'child' and he made what I considered to be a personal comment I simply stood alongside him said to him 'shout your mouth' and then continued on my way.

Been saying 4 a while Roy is not the player he was. Personally, and they have been top players at times, I would also lose Manny, Jacko, Moussa and Pinns. We do need to replace those that are clearly not at the standard we require.
Tough job for any new manager, but he will have to be ruthless to did us out of the hole.

I don't understand why people want to lose any of these players. Don't forget Jacko has been out of the game a long while, Manny is injured, Moussa could be a huge asset in the future and Pinno just hasn't been given the chance he needs to prove himself.

I think that if we can get Jukebox, Manny and Macca back, keep hold of pullen in goal, and sort out a definite centre back duo, we should be fine.

As for people criticising Skins, you have to look at the bigger picture. I didn't see the game on saturday, but other times, it isn't always his fault he's moved out of position. Don't forget that majority of the time, our big centre backs go up for the corners and the free kicks, so this leaves us bare at the back for cover. therefore skins has to go across and fill the holes until someone else has tracked back and he can return to his position. Does this make sense?

I was witness to the so called incident on Saturday. Yes a supporter shouted a 3 word statement which while probably being unnessassary & "rude" was not crude or aimed at anyone personally (& probably summed up what we all privately thought). This prompted Jessica to say something in reply for which I do not blame her.

At no point was a fellow supporter abused. While I do not condone abuse from the terraces I believe everyony is allowed their point of view within reason. I also concur with Mr Charlton that there was no need for this so called child ( who was probably just as emotionally wound up as we all were ) to get involved in the situation. It was a day to forget so let this thing die but please ensure the facts are CORRECT before posting. Now lets get behind the team.

I am REDolent
