Two matches actually Jeff - your missive is totally invalid now...

I have to say I don't think I've ever seen the term 'fan' used in such a loose sense as our beloved councillor has in this case.

I would write to him too, but I don't know as much as you lot do. I know the basics, but I wouldn't be able to quote what the MP said or anything like that, as I wasn't aware.

But I'd like to help in some way.

I posted the petition on this football message board a couple of weeks ago.

Simply crib from everyone elsen Darren. Read the letters sent so far, pick the best bits which you feel are important and click on the link to e mail him.
You don't have to be Shakespeare - just sincere in your belief.
Go for it, and let us see your letter on here - who knows , maybe some Gravesham councillors could be pointed towards this forum to see what we fans really think of them!!!

BTW, I signed Margit's petition, and was proud to do so. I may slag them off for their style of play and CK, but that is football rivalry, we are meant to do that. I don't feel hypocritical for doing so either.

Their plight may be helped by their petition, so I feel as if I contributed in some little way. At least I didn't just smirk and watch them go down.

It is important for football fans of every club to unite together against the likes of Thanet District Council, Cllr Burden and the Scally, regardless of personal dislikes/rivalry.

Since talk of the Gills migrating reared its ugly head I have always considered it to be just talk & that the idea of them bettering their 8Khome gtes 12 miles down the road laughable but with the rumours still flying & our continued discussion I am starting to feel more uneasy. I live & work in the Medway towns & know many "real" Gills supporters, some of them close friends, and it is obviouse to me thet very few are taking this senario seriously indeed it did not even warrant a mention in the Brian Moore`s Head yearly summary. Perhaps we should be talking to their supporter groups in an attempt to get them mobilised as I am sure they want any such move as much as us. Sure there will be a few who won`t be bothered & Sc*lly would probably ignore any local opinion but the more we have "on board" the better if the unspeakable happens.

Here's my message to Mr Burden:

Dear Mr Burden

As a resident of Gravesham I was very disappointed to read your comments in this week's edition of the Gravesend Messenger (Page 11) regarding "Football Clubs should unite".

Any passionate football supporter will immediately tell you, its only truly possible to support the one football team. To claim and I quote "I'm now the biggest fan of both clubs" is simply open to ridicule.

As the Council leader and elected representative for the Borough of Gravesham I find it strange you feel the need to support Gillingham Football Club at all.

Gravesend and Northfleet F.C. has progressed tremendously in recent years, with at least one and a half thousand people regularly attending matches, not to mention the many "armchair" supporters the Club has. You risk alienating the very people you represent, if you persist with your public support of Gillingham F.C.'s proposals to relocate to Gravesham.

Thank you for your time.

Agreed Chatham Gary. Everyone who reads this forum needs to email Councillor Burden - its the Clubs future that's at stake so lets all make an effort!

As well as posting to Councillor Burden himself why not also drop the Gravesend Messenger's letter page a message about his comments at:

gravesendmessenger@thekmgroup.co.uk

If the letters get printed in "black and white" in the letters page of the Kent Messenger this will give the councillors something else to think about.

Remember Be Polite! as it won't help the Clubs cause otherwise.

I can't believe the mans ignorance - Next council elections a Fleet first candidate should stand against him !

I have sent him the following;

Dear Cllr Burden,

From your comments in the Gravesend Messenger , it is obvious to all concerned that you do not understand the first thing about being a football fan.

I would kindly request that you come down to Stonebridge Road and talk to some real ones , before gauging and commenting on what you believe will be the best chance of success for your local football team.

Your local club, is enjoying its highest league position for over 25 years and with the ever expanding local population, we are ideally based to expand.

With the right support from the local council and community obtaining league status could be within our grasp.

we do not need or want another club imported onto our patch ( and nor do the real Gills fans want to move here either) , and your lack of understanding of this fact astounds me.

We really do expect and deserve better from our local representatives.

your sincerely,

Wobbly Wayne

Fleet Trust Member and GNFC Shareholder

I think it would be no bad thing if Mr Burden's rather ill-considered views were passed on to Chris Pond. Obviously, we should be careful not to be rude about Councillor B, whatever our private thoughts: more along the lines of mistaken/misled rather than Mr Donkeyb*llocksforbrains, I feel.

As I have contacted CP twice already re the stadium issue & shall be again in a week or two, it would be better if he got stuff from different people. The guy is New Labour through & through, but please don't let that prejudice you or affect your tone.

He is a junior minister, could be tremendously useful at the end of the day & does seem to be in tune with his constituents when it comes to protecting their local identity.

His email address is:

PONDC@parliament.uk

If you're feeling mega efficient, you might want to cc to this address, which I assume is that of his pa/secretary:

KHANS@parliament.uk

Dear Mr Burden

It is with dismay that I have read your comments in The Messenger.

As the “biggest fans of both clubs” could you please advise myself and indeed all fellow Fleet supporters how you have come to the conclusion that a merger between Gillingham FC and The Fleet will benefit anyone. Not only will it destroy the culture of non league football within the borough, it will clearly destroy the friendly rivalry between both sets of supporters. I fear that your comments are both disrespectful to both clubs and also a possible hindrance to Chris Ponds seat within the borough of Gravesham. You could be the man who makes Chris Pond redundant.

Obviously, before making a statement like you did, you looked into the facts as laid down in both the press and the countless messages posted on the internet and the non league and league press. I would therefore assume that you have also mentioned to fellow supporters at The Fleet your believes , and as a councillor within the borough have walked around the ground trying to gauge opinion. Could I be so kind to ask you which areas of the ground your opinions are supported. Could you also advise on the regularity of your attendance at either The Fleet or Gillingham.

If yourself and Gravesham council continue on the bitter road of insistence that One club shall represent both the Medway towns and Gravesham , then they will have to be accountable for the political and social fallout.

There are many plans being rumoured about. I can only point you towards AFC Wimbledon whom were formed from nothing in response to businessmen closing down their club for relocation. I, like many of my fellow supporters will rather go back to the lowest leagues and start a club that will have respect in the borough and carry the name of Gravesend proud then be forced to watch a low league team in a ground of 25000 seats with no atmosphere or loyalty from the owners or supporters.

No player is bigger then their club. No politician is bigger then their party. Football will survive with or without Gravesham council’s support.

Your statement has invited the fight onto your doorstep. Good luck in the battle.

Gillingham’s move to Gravesend is inevitable. Twenty or thirty emails to a councillor will make no difference to the situation.

We should be doing more to cement our reputation within the town as well as trying to attract new supporters?

It’s fine to moan about Gillingham and the proposed move now, but have any of you thought about what will happen when they do relocate and what plan of action we should be taking. Leaving it until the decision is announced is potential suicide. We must strengthen our position now.

Scally's plans are dependant on building a casino, no casino no stadium.
The decision on whether to license a casino rests with the government not the local council and with the governments recent scaling down on the number of casino's to be granted licenses from 40 to 8 and the house of lords looking to reduce this to betwen 4 and 0 you can bet Gravesham wont be getting a casino.

No casino in Gravesham
