THE LATEST RUMOUR...

I would be very surprised if he was interested, given that he has been a (mostly) successful manager in the second layer of English football. Also I very much doubt that the club could afford the sort of salary that he would be able to command in the marketplace.

I heard this rumour a little while ago after Mr Hessenthaler decided to quiet the manager's job at Gillingham. I would be surprised if was willing to drop down to the Conference after managing Gillingham in the Championship!!!! Think he did a reasonable job considering the financial constraints. If he did decide to come to Gravesend I think this would be a step forward, but I am not holding out much hope here!!!

Hessenthaler got loads of abuse on the Gillingham board. I don't think many rated him as a manager, or - for the last year or so - as a player. Although before that it was a totally different story..

You can't really knock his record, since he improved their league position every season he was there until last year's relegation scrap.

Of course, talk of him being our new manager is pie-in-the-sky stuff.

Andy Hessenthaler and Peter Taylor are old mates.

I think it was Peter Taylor who persuaded Gillingham to give AH the managers job when he left.

It was Taylor who recommended AH to Watford and AH started his career playing at Dartford when Taylor was player manager there.

Hessenthaler won't be able to earn a living as a player for much longer if he wants to get back into management would he be better off as assistant to Taylor ( if that is on offer) or managing his home town club?

If he did come to us I would imagine he would see that as a stepping stone to bigger things but at this stage of his career that might be quite an attractive prospect compared with telling his wife and kids to go to Hull.
