Margate Tonight

Sorry John, it was a Clarke penalty, and you know what those are like.

You would have to get your dictionary of superlatives out to describe the performance by the boys tonight. Stunning football made the fans delirious with joy, and the team ran Dag & Red off the pitch.

Who were the Conference side tonight? WE WERE.

SAY IT LOUD, I'M MARGATE AND I'M PROUD.

The team:

Trego

Oates Keister Edwards Smith

Charalambous Clarke Stadhart Benvenides

Baptiste Jjunju

Moses goal was taken on the rebound, Smith's powering header from an outswinging Clarke corner from the left. They got a pen for a dubious hand ball, we got one from the defenders tumbling Moses over in the final minutes.

It snowed, it was cold, and I didn't care.

Away to Margate : Daggers Lost 1-3

Final score from The Homelands, Ashford Town FC, Ashford, Kent.

Team announced at 6.45pm

John Still is forced to make a hatful of changes from Saturday’s match to due to a horrendous injury list at the Glyn Hopkin Stadium. Simon Overland in goal, Jamie Smith, Tom McGowen and Matthew Judge all make the first eleven. Including in the opening line-up is Warren Barton who makes his first start of the season. Also in the line-up is Ryan Maxwell who was just given international clearance this week to play in this evening’s match. Captain tonight is Glen Southam and Jake Leberl is back in the team and plays against his former club. For Margate due to the on going construction of Hartsdown Park the game is being played at Ashford Town FC. The Daggers have play here before, in a FA Cup First Round match in November 1996 where the score was 2-2. Tonight’s winners will play either Crawley Town or Canvey Island away in the next round.

Kick-off!

21mins

Simon Overland makes a great save from a Rocky Bapstite right foot shot.

35mins

Overland was there again with a good save from a Gate midfielder's close range effort.

43mins GOAL! 0-1 Margate (Jjunju)

Margate take the lead just before the when Moses Jjunju's long range effort was parried by Overland and Jjunju fired home from the rebound, his third goal in two games.

HT

Second Half underway

48mins GOAL! 0-2 Margate (Smith)

The Daggers go two down just after the interval when Ross Smith double's the home side lead with a header from a corner.

70mins

Cross from the right by Shane Blackett into the box and Jake Leberl fires against the cross bar, from the rebound Matthew Judge shoots straight at the goalkeeper.

72mins

Smith could of made it three for Margate in a one on one with Simon Overland, however it was the Daggers goalkeeper who came out on top.

89mins GOAL! D&R 1-2 (Boot) pen

Tony Boot gives the Daggers hope in the final minutes when he scores from the penalty spot after Green handles in the penalty area. Boot actually had to re-take the penalty after scoring the first attempt but encroachment by Andre Fashanu meant he had to take it again. He scored the second time around in the bottom right hand corner.

90+2mins GOAL! Margate (Stadhart) pen

Seconds after the Daggers penalty Margate went straight up their end and Warren Barton fouled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot for the second time in a minute. Che Stadhart makes the game save from the spot kick.

ITS LIKE WATCHING BRAZIL!!!

Thought the team were brilliant tonight albeit against a very understrength conference side. At times we played some scintillating football in testing conditions. Rocky had his best game for ages, with some mesmerising skills and actually making tackles and winning balls in the air but shame the goalscoring touch continues to desert him. Think he and the on fire Moses linked up well, PB had some great runs and crosses and Clarkey put himself about more than usual. Fairly solid with the meister in for Barnett at the back. Oates as reliable as ever. They had two efforts on goal and one was a penalty. We had five or six great chances in addition to the 3 goals we scored. If Barnett is fit for Sat I reckon either Alex or Che on the bench with Watson and Ned. If only we could play like that in the league!

Fabulous performance. Defence watertight.Keister played brilliant at back with Smith and Edwards.Only downfall was Rockys lack of finishing.Could and should have had 3 himself. Nevertheless the whole team him including incl. played their part well. Not a 1st team put out by the Daggers but some influential faces nevertheless. That was the OLD "gate" out there tonight. Compact, playing good flowing football, and creating many chances.Never in danger at the back. Great Great Great. Best all round performance I have witnessed all season.

Final result could & should have been 5-0 really.

The Daggers keeper Overland was very suspect ,definatly not conference standard on tonights showing. only Rocky trying to hard to walk in goals saved a 5 1 scoreline. It is a sign of how your luck has changed when your keeper is beaten by a ball which hits the bar and rebounds into his hands.A couple of weeks ago it would have gone in. Trego played well and nearly got to the ball at the second taking of the penalty(unlike there keeper most of his clearences went past the 1/2 way line). Grec Oates is back to his best and looked to be fully fit at last. JK played a blinder in Bills old sweeper role. Not one man had an of night.Well played all. special mention must go to Moses ,he surely can only get better as his match fitness comes. Of the opposition, Jake(though Tam and Mervin wont agree ,had a solid gameand there number 3 can turn out for us any time.Keep playing like this and we should climb the table. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bow.gif" alt="" /> Pity it was a cup game and three points were not earned. Also i hope Rocky comes out of his sulk (for not being allowed to take the penalty) before saterday. In better times maybe he would get a club fine for walking off the pitch and not going with his team mates to the supporters who had waited to applaud them.
