Andy to name new Assistant Manager

Recommended Posts

Just on RK sports desk. Will be announced tommorrow. The speculation starts here. Paul MaCarthy?

Vastly experienced. Twilight of career. Good motivator.

Good career move - get some coaching under his belt before retirement.

Not too dissimilar to a previous Assistant Manager we had, is he? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

It may well be. It's a tough one to call really. Of the existing players or coaches at the club the only one who I believe can be considered for the Assistant position is McCarthy. Otherwise it would have to be someone new from some where or another. Personally I know which I'd prefer. I believe that something we could do with at present is injections of some new ideas from new faces.

And if Andy is going to name the new assistant, then its hardly the actions of a manager about to get the chop.

Hurrah for that...

Been proud to sing Andy Fords red and white army for many a season, see no reason to change that view at the moment.

just need to rejig the words to the old classic and away we go.

Andy Ford, Andy Ford, Andy Andy Ford

His teams got no flair, but we don't care

Andy Andy Ford.

we are the Fleet

Looks like Andy is safe. I was very worried when it emerged that BK called Andy into a meeting after the game. That usually only means one thing.

It could have been BK simply finding out when Andy is going to name his assistant.

Apart from Lovell, Are there any local ex Gills still kicking around, out of work?

It would be nice if we could get in a player/assistant manager as Ade was meant to be, which would kill two birds with one stone and is probably the only way we could get in a player with real quality.

As stated above if Andy is choosing his assistant then that appears to be much more of a vote of confidence from the board than the traditional " your job is safe " just before the knife in the back.

I already have a high opinion of the job Brian Kilcullen has done at the Fleet but it has just gone up another notch.

Quote:
Not a total wild guess ...Steve Lovell.

Is that the Steve Lovell who was player/manager once..........The same player/manager who screamed at a 15 year old for making a mistake, instead of encouraging him....when his mistakes were legendary and he always blamed others?........I thought we needed somebody to get the dressing room to gel?

I wonder if Andy has been pressured into appointing an assistant by BK. Andy did go on record the other day to say that because he was full time he did not feel the urgency to fill the post, and he was enjoying all the pre- match warming up "stuff".

Far more important is to replace Paul Harrison, in a full time role that covers press, publicity, the programme and the website.

Paul appeared to doing an impressive job from the fans perspective, but clearly there was a personality clash with Brian and the board - fair enough, they run the club.

But having a high profile PR man will have a lot of add on side effects, more TV coverage, better national press and more paying public through the turnstiles.

Andy Ford definately needs an assistant to help with training and possible scouting missions on players and opposing teams. It was a big loss to lose Adrian Pennock when we did as I think he was probably an excellent link between the team and the manager. To the end, Paul McCarthy would not be a bad choice as the new assistant manager. However, I also agree with comments made above that a fresh face would also help, so it will be interesting to see who Andy brings in. I also agree that the club need to do more on the PR side, but that seems to be running through several of the threads on here!!!!

Agree that Andy should stay, what would getting rid of him achieve. Any new Manager would want to make changes and if Andy does not have the finances neither would anyone new.

I think a fresh face with the AM job would be great, as has been said, new ideas, a different view of things.

What we need to be looking at is who we want to keep for next season and making sure they do not escape through the hatch and that new contracts if necessary are sorted out soon.

The last thing we want is to start next year with some of our key people missing because we were not organised. So although Andy has said he enjoys getting involved with training etc. I think he needs help so he can concentrate on retaining key people and hopefully getting in new blood. Sorry to disagree but we do need a striker, I cannot see how all the problems can be blamed on the mid-field.

Good service is required but so is someone who makes his own luck and sadly we have been a bit short of that lately.

These are of course entirely my own views not the views of the Trust.
