'Sodje can be an international'

BRENTFORD manager Martin Allen admits he took a big gamble in signing bad boy Sam Sodje from non-league football in the close season, but the former Margate centre-half has done so well Allen has now given him an extended contract.

 

And Allen, whose spell as manager of Barnet first alerted him to Sodje's potential while the defender was with Margate and Stevenage Borough in the Conference, reckons the 25-year-old London-born Nigerian can go on to win international honours.

 

Allen revealed: "Sodje has agreed an extension to his contract which will run for two years until June 2007.

 

"I must admit it was a bit of a risk taking him on, especially as he was sent off four times last season and started this campaign with a six-game suspension. But sometimes you have to take the gamble - sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don't.

 

"I now want Sam to improve further by pushing himself to play at a higher level and getting a call up from his full international team."

 

Allen believes Sodje and his centre-back partner Michael Turner, recently signed from Charlton Athletic, can play key roles if Brentford are successful in gaining promotion.

 

The Bees boss declares: "We now have a fast improving pair of young centre-backs who will only get better with full-time training."

I have a colleague who saw the Swindon V Brentford match.Knows of Sam from my ravings about Margate, and although a Swindon fan, he said that same played a blinder against Swindons best forward ,and that Sam was lightening quick

You realise of Course that a Sodge can only qualify for England once they have played for Margate ,so when do Efe and Onome sign.

 

Seriously, it would'nt matter if Onome was any good or not; if CK was to sign him on loan ,just the name alone would mean so much to Gate fans
