Don't know if any of you will remember, but I'm the Southend fan who's posted on here a few times and the one who came on here after your match with Grays to applaud your support.

Well I want to do it again! Being too lazy and at the moment, too skint to go up to Mansfield, I was delighted to see that you were at home today, so I straight away decided to come along for my 3rd Hornchurch game of the season. Have to say, with all the goings on, especially in the last week, you deserve a huge amount of credit for the way you sang your hearts out till the end. The 'Garry Hill's Red and White army' chant that went on until after the final whistle showed what magnificent support you have there. If any of you fancy coming along to Roots Hall when you're not at one of your games to try and get our supporters going like that, you're most definitely more than welcome!

As for what happened on the pitch, how on earth did you not go 3 or 4 up in the 1st half? I was thoroughly impressed by your passing and movement, and you passed your way around Newport time after time but just couldn't convert, thanks mainly to same great keeping. I don't know if any of you thought the same, but I just felt a number of your players tired quite badly as the game went on, the more experienced players like Robson and Shipp, as well as Bowes and Sigere seemed to be blowing like anything towards the end. Has Graeme Carrick left you already? As I was looking forward to seeing him play, and I was slightly suprised not to hear his name read out on the teamsheet.

We complain a hell of a lot about the standard of refs in League 2, and rightly so most of the time, but the standard of officiating in your game today was appalling. The sending off was a joke, and I was sitting right near the ruck in the dugouts, and the ref got it completely wrong then as well. Actually, how on earth Andy Douglas escaped getting a card I don't know. Your assistant doesn't mind getting involved either, does he!? The linesman continually waved their flag, but as soon if the referee didn't see it, they put it straight down as if nothing had ever happened as well.

I was slightly saddened to hear Garry Hill say that he had resigned on my way home. Who do you honestly think that you could bring in to replace him? Any obvious names for you to look at?

Good luck with everything, and I'll be back in 2 weeks for your game with Lewes. Hopefully I'll hold back the urge to vent any anger at a former waster of ours, Barrington Belgrave, and that smug little git Harvey, who both play for Lewes.

Here's the stats if anyone is interested

Desborough

Locke

Gooding

O'Donoghue

Southon

Bowes

Robson

Hill

Shipp

Sigere

Douglas

Subs

Everitt

Makitu - for Hill 75 mins

Philip

Maynard

Baruwa

Bookings

O'Donoghue 3 mins

O'Donoghue 54 mins (off)

Scorer Shipp 60 pen (Douglas fouled - and no action taken agains the player who did almost exactly the same as Ian Cousins did the other week)

Newport bookings

O'Sullivan 5

Lee Phillips and Williams both on 55

Darren Jones 56

I thought that O'Sullivan also had the yellow waved at him on 55. as as two yellows equal one red, I must have got it wrong.

The referee also got it wrong - The Newport player who hit Andy Douglas got off with just a yellow, and then only after a confab between the referee and the two linesmen -the last time there was a 3-official confab was at Newport this season. As far as I could tell, Andy Douglas did not retaliate after being fouled, and therefore did not get a booking.

thsnks andy, but i thought that until we had a man sent off our support was very quiet,we can make much more noise than that but i think i speak for everyone when i say not knowing whats going on doesn't help,we really need stability, but we are the best fans in conference football and we know it

No problem.

Another thing I forgot to ask, as it's obviously slightly hard to keep up with just who plays for you still, is Simon Downer still with you? I was really impressed with him against Grays and I remember him being pretty in demand when he was at Orient not too long ago.
